Lincoln Berean Church
Description
Everyone. Every day. Come as you are. It does not matter to us what your circumstances are or where you've been, you matter to God. We hope you'll find inside the walls of Lincoln Berean, authentic people who love God and each other. We are all imperfect, saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. We're glad you're here.

All of us, as people made in the image of God, have legitimate longings and desires—to be significant, find meaning and purpose, and to experience pleasure, safety, security. All of those are ultimately intended to lead us to God. We find the satisfaction, the fulfillment of those desires in a relationship with God. When we do not turn to God to satisfy those longings, we search for satisfaction in other places, and that always leads to trouble. That’s what we want to talk about in Proverbs, Chapter 23. The writer of the proverbs identifies four specific things that we turn to other than God: Money and stuff, wine, food, and sex. What Are You Searching For? When you remember someone's name, you're not just showing them that you care–you're telling them they matter. This weekend as you come into the church you'll find name tags. Feel free to write your name, stick it on and introduce yourself to someone you haven't met before :)
The sobering reality of parenting is the time goes so quickly. Your kids are gone and you never really ever lived what you said you really valued. All of us as parents struggle with the frustration that about the time we figure it out, we’re done. But you don’t have to be done. It’s not too late. There’s a whole army of children that I can invest my life in, teach, and train. I cannot imagine a more effective way to change the world than to pour my life into this next generation of leaders and world-changers. So we view it as a partnership with our young parents, with all of us in the body. Let’s make this happen. Let’s train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it. We had over 200 cars registered in our annual Berean Car Show last Saturday! This Lincoln Journal Star article was such a great reminder that everyone has a story and we're honored to be part of Bill's.
Think about the environments that you are in - home, work, neighborhood, school. Would the people in those environments say your presence is more like refreshing water that brings life to their souls, or more like a scorching wind that drains the life out of them? That’s what we want to talk about in Proverbs, Chapter 21. It’s not unusual for people to be disappointed or dissatisfied with the environment or the culture in which they live, but oftentimes we fail to realize our contribution to the breakdown of that culture and what makes it so dissatisfying. We all tend to think, “I’m right!” What then is the implication? If I’m always right, then in my mind, you’re always wrong! Now how does that create an environment for flourishing? It just might be possible that I’m not always right. The fact is: all of us have a story...we have hurts, backgrounds, insecurities, and that affects everything we do, say and think. That creates a lens through which I view life—and oftentimes it skews things. So I have to be humble enough to realize I am not always right. I must be open to whatever it is that God wants for me in order to really bring refreshing water and flourishing to these different environments where I find myself. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (*NIV, Jeremiah 29:11) We love that verse as Christians, don’t we? It conjures up these images of puppies, rainbows and flowers. We long for prosperity, safety, security and hope. What’s interesting is that in the bigger picture of Jeremiah 29, the Israelites have been captured. Their place has been destroyed and they’re now in shackles, walking off to a foreign land—which seems a little different than the picture I just painted for you. We are going to take a look at what’s happening in Jeremiah 29. Why Am I Still Here? One Story Jeremiah 29:1-14 Pastor Josh Luse For a complete transcript: www.lincolnberean.org/sermons
