Despite the rain scare, Top Golf Night at Hillcrest went on without a hitch yesterday! Drinks were drunk, food was eaten, balls were hit, Golf Shop guys picking up balls on the range were hit, and all had a great time! Looking forward to our next one. :)

We were SO honored to host a very special event last night: the wedding of two of our own staff alumni, Carley Heaton and Brad Helmick! Brad and Carley were high school sweethearts and have been together for eight years. Brad joined the Navy four years ago which has taken him around the world, but he is now stationed in Washington where Carley joined him last fall. At Hillcrest, both Brad and Carley worked their way up from banquet staff to ballroom managers, with Carley putting in six years and Brad with five years. Hillcrest was such a large part of their lives that many of their wedding guests (and the entire wedding party) were Hillcrest employees of past and present! You all may not get to witness the relationships the staff create behind the scenes, but this is a true testament to the camaraderie at Hillcrest. Even though our lives may take us far and wide, we always cherish and celebrate the times when we're brought back together! Congratulations, Brad and Carley! Never forget your roots. <3

One of our summer interns, Sam, got to do THE COOLEST thing this spring: work The Masters! Have a read below to learn about Sam's and her fellow students' experience: Many golf enthusiasts consider the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, to be the pinnacle of professional golf. Hosting the event is a huge undertaking, and this year 24 students and their professor from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management (HRTM) program worked with members, patrons, and staff at Augusta National Golf Club for the 2018 Masters Tournament. The group was on the historic grounds of Augusta National prior to the start of the practice rounds and tournament, leaving Lincoln on March 29 and began their duties the next day. About 2,000 hospitality professionals were needed to provide service to participants, members and patrons of Augusta National during the Masters' April 1-8 run. The UNL contingent returned to Nebraska on April 10. The UNL students and their professor Shannon Rowen served in a variety of roles in tournament operations at select locations throughout the property. “We [were] thrilled to be returning to Augusta National Golf Club for the third year with a larger contingent of hospitality professionals. This is an incredible opportunity and experience for the students in our program; we are so thankful for our relationship with Augusta National and the many private donors who helped make this experience possible.” Students selected for the 2018 Master’s HRTM internship include Ashley Keetle, Lauren Brudigan, Marissa Sandman, Taylor Carlberg, Valan Bellamy, Seanie Schmidt, Casey Smith, Cassidy Kruse, Chelsea Wilkinson, Jordyn Champoux, Jennifer Somma, Amelia Hansen, Eve Baird, Cassie Oliver, Jason Reed, John Silva, Murray Gilbertson, Stevie Dobson, Rachel Tyner, Garrett Bowder, Madina McManus, Samantha Parde, Jordyn Heinle, Paige Freitag and their professor, Shannon Rowen. Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management students have a leadership minor and can specialize in event management, club management, lodging, human resources, food and beverage management, and/or tourism. The HRTM major resides jointly in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and the College of Education and Human Sciences. (Questions regarding this information can be directed to Shannon Rowen at SRowen2@unl.edu.)
