Our Lady of Good Counsel Church family wishes everyone God's abundant blessing throughout this New Year we are entering in to. May it be an Year of much Blessings and joy. May our Blessed Mother intercede for us taking us all to her son Jesus. It is a day of obligation. New year vigil Mass will be on Monday Dec. 31 at 5 pm New Year Day Mass will be on Tuesday Jan. 1 at 10 am. The Blessed Virgin Mary is the Mother of God means that the child—conceived in her womb by the power of the Holy Spirit, carried in her body for nine months, and born into this world—is God. As such, this celebration highlights the pivotal truth of the Church's Faith: that God has, in Jesus Christ, accepted a human nature, chosen to be born into this world as we have all been born into this world, and has lived a real, human life. In doing so, God has accepted the full implication of what is means to be human, including the experiences of suffering and death. The precise title “Mother of God” goes back at least to the third or fourth century. In the Greek form Theotokos—God-bearer—it became the touchstone of the Church’s teaching about the Incarnation. The Council of Ephesus in 431 insisted that the holy Fathers were right in calling the holy virgin Theotokos. At the end of this particular session, crowds of people marched through the street shouting: “Praised be the Theotokos!” The tradition reaches to our own day. In its chapter on Mary’s role in the Church, Vatican II’s Dogmatic Constitution on the Church calls Mary “Mother of God” 12 times. In this New Year by means of this message, I pronounce upon you the very Word of God, His Promises and Blessing. Believe it in your hearts and receive it in your lives. " May the Lord answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you. May he send you help from the sanctuary and grant you support from Zion. May he remember all your sacrifices and accept your burnt offerings. May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed. May we shout for joy over your victory and lift up our banners in the name of our God. May the Lord grant all your requests. " (Ps. 20) Fr. Peter Thenan

Hi everyone Encounter the "Emmanuel" God at this Christmas as we purify our hearts and mind of all that stand between Him and us. Holy Spirit says "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." (1Jn. 1:9) Today we will have opportunity to make our confession from 7 pm. Many priests will be available at our church. I am inviting all God's people to listen to this invitation to holiness God wants to bestow upon all of us at this Christmas. Share the word around and invite everyone. May God help us. Fr. Peter Thenan

The Catholic community at Kingsville will gather together to celebrate the feast of our Blessed Mother on Wednesday today , on the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. This is our 6th year and all Kingsville to come together and celebrate together as one community. We believe that the procession conveys the message of Our Lady to the people in Kingsville as we take a mile long walk through the streets with prayers and seeking her intercession, reciting the Holy Rosary. Lots of people witnessed our procession with devotion and many joined us on the way. If you forgot, may this post serve as a kind reminder. May the power of her intercession bring down anointing from heaven bless every one. May the blessed Mother crush the head of all evil influence in us. Please join the procession at 5.30 beginning at St. Martin's Church proceeding to St. Gertrude's Church for the feast day Mass and fellowship The Story of Our Lady of Guadalupe The feast in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe goes back to the 16th century. Chronicles of that period tell us the story. A poor Indian named Cuauhtlatohuac was baptized and given the name Juan Diego. He was a 57-year-old widower, and lived in a small village near Mexico City. On Saturday morning December 9, 1531, he was on his way to a nearby barrio to attend Mass in honor of Our Lady. Juan was walking by a hill called Tepeyac when he heard beautiful music like the warbling of birds. A radiant cloud appeared, and within it stood an Indian maiden dressed like an Aztec princess. The lady spoke to him in his own language and sent him to the bishop of Mexico, a Franciscan named Juan de Zumarraga. The bishop was to build a chapel in the place where the lady appeared. Eventually the bishop told Juan to have the lady give him a sign. About this same time Juan’s uncle became seriously ill. This led poor Juan to try to avoid the lady. Nevertheless the lady found Juan, assured him that his uncle would recover, and provided roses for Juan to carry to the bishop in his cape or tilma. On December 12, when Juan Diego opened his tilma in the bishop’s presence, the roses fell to the ground, and the bishop sank to his knees. On the tilma where the roses had been appeared an image of Mary exactly as she had appeared at the hill of Tepeyac. According to a contemporary chronicler, nine million Indians became Catholic in a very short time. In these days when we hear so much about God’s preferential option for the poor, Our Lady of Guadalupe cries out to us that God’s love for and identification with the poor is an age-old truth that stems from the Gospel itself. Our Lady of Guadalupe, Pray for us

Join us at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church Kingsville for a special celebration of an important milestone in the journey of 13 deacon candidates in the diocese of Corpus Christi. One by one, the candidates would place their hands on the Holy Bible, promising to live out and share the powerful message of the Gospel. Most Rev. Michael Mulvey will install these deacon candidates into the Ministry of Lector tomorrow, October 19, 2018 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Kingsville.. “Be faithful to handing on the word of God, so that it may grow strong in the hearts of his people,” These are the sacred words of instruction they would give their ear to tomorrow. According to the church’s law and practice, the instituted lector is charged with proclaiming the readings from the Sacred Scriptures (except for the Gospel), announcing the intentions in the Prayer of the Faithful (in the absence of a deacon), and reciting or singing the responsorial psalm if there is no cantor. As distinct from the typical parish reader, these men will now exercise this ministry in a permanent way. Together with Bishop Michael,We pray that as they meditate constantly on God’s Word, they may grow in wisdom and faithfully proclaim to God’s people. Please share and everyone know. We support these men who have answered God's Call Waiting to welcome you all Fr. Peter Thenan
