Calvary Chapel Greenville
Description
Family Bible Teaching and Worship for Greenville, Tx and surrounding communities. We are a Bible believing/teaching fellowship of friends. The Bible says in Acts 17:10-11 that the people in Berea were more noble than those in Thessalonica because the studied the scriptures daily. We seek wisdom that comes from the scriptures, Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord”. The long range plan is to teach through the Bible verse by verse. Why verse by verse? Isaiah 28:9 :Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. 10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little.” In the context of the verse we see that GOD teaches us all not just the “super holy”. It would seem that the most sensible way to mature as a Christian would be to go verse by verse.

Leftovers… 17 February, 2017 This past Wednesday night we were in Leviticus 13, which deals with leprosy. Did you know that the Bible makes a powerful parallel between leprosy and sin? We find out that it starts small and unnoticed. In verse 3 the Bible says that the disease appears to be deeper than the skin. Interestingly enough, as you begin in a life of sin, it is almost invisible from those around you. Leprosy/sin/disease spreads throughout the body if it is not detected and treated. Like leprosy, we need to deal decisively with sin. A sickness or disease that goes untreated will be devastating. Some of us, myself included, don’t like going to the doctor. Why? Simple, if I go to the doctor they will probably find something wrong with me. We have to overcome our sense of wanting to be comfortable and stop sin or disease from spreading, especially something that can be dealt with decisively. As we live in this society we will become dirty and contaminated by the things we find around us. In Leviticus the way to deal with leprosy/sin was to go to the priest. We have a high priest, Jesus. Go to the King/High Priest. Let us not be named as people with rapidly spreading sin.
Leftovers... February 15, 2017 18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and Spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Ephesians 5:18-19 Paul draws a contrast here. Being drunk with wine versus filled with the Spirit. We can either do things the worldly way (drunk with wine) or God’s way Spirit led. Being drunk removes self-control, balance, wisdom and judgement. The Spirit of God on the other hand increases all of these things. Because of this we should be singing praises to God. King David was a man who could praise God. He wrote Psalm 145 which is a wonderful song of praise (link below). Challenge for today. Sing praises to God in your car, but don’t raise your hands unless someone else is driving. https://www.blueletterbible.org/esv/psa/145/1/s_623001
