The City of Gardner, Kansas is a general purpose municipal government located in Johnson County, Kansas.  Gardner, Kansas is one of the most rapidly-growing communities in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Located along Interstate 35, just 25 miles from downtown Kansas City, Gardner is a historic community with a keen vision for the future. Its roots stretch back over 150 years to its founding in 1857 along the route of the Santa Fe and Oregon Trails. Presently, Gardner is home to over 20,000 residents and includes seven elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school. Gardner is committed to maintaining its traditional small-town values while focusing on providing for future growth and development.

Madison Street trail replacement project to begin May 30 The City of Gardner's replacement of the Madison Street pedestrian trail will begin on Tuesday, May 30. The project includes the closure of the trail from Waverly Road to Center Street until mid-July. The trail replacement is part of an ongoing effort by the city to improve the bike/pedestrian trail network throughout Gardner. Yesterday evening, the city hosted a retreat for all of its board and committee members to engage them in the strategic planning process. The theme of the retreat was called "Journey to Excellence," and it provided an overview on how each board/committee member can contribute to accomplishing the community's goal. New Gardner Farmers Market opens tomorrow! The Gardner Grange and its co-sponsor, the City of Gardner, are excited to announce the opening of the new Gardner Farmers Market on Thursday, May 25. Located at the Johnson County Fairgrounds, 136 E. Washington St., the market will provide fresh produce, baked goods, crafts and flowers from a number of vendors. "We are thrilled to partner with the Gardner Grange to offer this experience right here in Gardner," Gardner Parks and Recreation Director Scott Garrie said. "This is also an excellent opportunity for the community to support its local farmers and businesses." The Gardner Farmers Market will run on Thursdays, from May 25 through Sept. 28, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with the exception of Aug. 3 due to the Johnson County Fair.
