A common phone call scam has resurfaced over the last few weeks, and Castle Rock Police Department wants to ensure that citizens stay informed so they don’t become victims of this scam. In this case, the scammer calls victims claiming to be a deputy or officer for a local law enforcement agency. The scammer then states that the victim has a warrant for their arrest, insist the victim provide personal information and pay a monetary fee to remove the warrant. The scammer has been aggressive in some cases. Castle Rock Police wants to remind citizens that law enforcement agencies will not contact citizens by phone to alert them of a warrant, nor will agencies demand payment for warrants over the phone. If you receive one of these scam phone calls, do NOT provide any personal information, do NOT pay the scammer any money or gift cards, and be sure to write down the phone number of the scammer. As always, make sure to call Castle Rock Police Department or file an online report at CRgov.com/epolicereporting

Fire Prevention starts with you! Next week is National Fire Prevention Week, but we're kicking it off early as Castle Rock Fire and Rescue Chiefs will become Domino’s Pizza Chefs from 4:30 to 6 p.m. today (Monday). Stop by the Domino’s Pizza at 695 Jerry St. to purchase a pizza made by your local firefighters and tour a fire engine. Take home a pizza and fire escape plan worksheet to share with your family.
Young and old turned out to celebrate our Town’s natural beauty during Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 30 on Douglas Land Conservancy protected land at the Woodlands Bowl Open Space, across from the Castle Rock Recreation Center. There was a public hike, as well as the unveiling of three new interpretive signs.
Make dinner easy tonight! Grab a pizza from Domino's, made personally by Castle Rock Fire and Rescue Chiefs to promote fire safety and Fire Prevention Week!
Create and practice your home escape plan with the home escape plan activity. Then, come show us and you will receive goodies (while supplies last) and a fire engine tour! With prevention top of mind during National Fire Prevention Week Oct. 8-14, Castle Rock Fire and Rescue and Domino’s Pizza want to help you make a home escape plan. The National Fire Protection Association annually honors Fire Prevention Week near Oct. 9, which is the anniversary of the 1871 Great Chicago Fire. The fire killed about 300 people and left more than 100,000 residents homeless, so the Fire Marshal Association started the commemorative week to prevent future fires. This year, the national theme is “Every second counts. Plan 2 Ways Out.” Locally, CRFD and Domino’s Pizza are partnering on several events this month to help you plan two ways out. Visit CRgov.com/FPW for more events.
