Press Release Sheriff Bryan Bailey May 8, 2017 Tri-County Auto Burglars identified The Castlewoods Subdivision in northwest Rankin County was victimized on May 1, 2017. During the course of that night, twelve vehicles were burglarized along with one occupied residence. The next day Sheriff’s Investigators were able to identify a female, Emily Grace TURLINGTON, as a person attempting to use one of the stolen credit cards in Jackson. TURLINGTON was arrested by Sheriff’s Investigators in Brandon the same day. Through further investigations, it was determined Heather Blair MILLER and Ronald Jermain WILSON, were also present while attempting to use the victim’s stolen credit cards. TURLINGTON, MILLER and WILSON were all arrested and charged with auto burglary. TURLINGTON has two previous bookings in the Rankin County Jail. MILLER has been booked into the Rankin County Jail thirteen times starting in 2012. Although this is WILSON’s first booking in the Rankin County Jail, he is no stranger to being arrested. He has numerous arrests in Hinds County, most were drug related. Based on new information obtained, Rankin County Investigators along with Hinds County Deputies responded to an address on Benning Road in Hinds County looking for two brothers, Kaleb Montory MONTGOMERY and his juvenile brother. MONTGOMERY is currently 17 years-of-age, but will be tried as an adult since he was out on felony bond for armed robbery in Jackson that occurred in September of 2016. Although the brothers were not home, investigators located and recovered property previously reported stolen from Rankin County. On May 4, 2017 Hinds County Deputies stopped a vehicle occupied by MONTGOMERY and his juvenile brother. Both were arrested on site for the warrants out of Rankin County. MONTGOMERY was taken to the Rankin County Detention Center and his brother was taken to the Rankin County Juvenile Detention Center. MONTGOMERY admitted to his and other’s role in the auto burglaries. It was also learned another individual, Curtis Schottel WILSON, was involved the in burglaries. WILSON has now been identified as the individual who entered the occupied dwelling in Castlewoods. The arrest of these individuals solves burglaries in Rankin County, Ridgeland, and Hinds County. The arrest of these four adults and on juvenile solves twelve auto burglaries in Rankin along with one residential burglary alone. The total number of auto burglaries could approach twenty. We are still looking for one member of the burglary ring, Curtis Schottel WILSON. If you have any information as to WILSON’s whereabouts, please contact Crime Stoppers or the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department at 601-825-1480 or tips@rankincounty.org. Sunday morning around 1030 a.m., a 911 call was placed from Thornton Place, south of Brandon on Hwy 18, in reference to a seven year old male being accidentally electrocuted. According to witness statements, the victim and other juveniles were outside playing after a rainstorm. The victim was attempting to unplug a charger for a golf cart when he fell to the ground. The other juveniles ran to get help from the victim’s mother. It is unclear at this time if the ground itself was charged, due to a lightning strike, or if the juvenile received a shock while trying to disconnect the charger. None of the other juveniles were affected, leading first responders to believe the shock was from the golf cart charger. First Responders arrived on scene and continued CPR. The victim was taken via Pafford to Blair E. Batson for treatment. The juvenile was in critical condition when transported from the scene. We will not release his identity at this time due to his age. Our prayers are with him, his family and the medical personnel working on his behalf. We received word around 3:30 p.m. that this young man succumbed to his injuries from being electrocuted. Out of respect to he and his family we will not be releasing his name at this time. Our prayers are now with is family as they deal with this tragedy. Please show them respect and privacy as they grieve.

Sheriff Bailey offers free self defense training for Rankin County Ladies The Rankin County Storm Shelter was full of aggression and violence Saturday, but it was all controlled and for personal defense. Led by Rusty Sammons and Rankin County SO Investigator Wayne Carter, 44 women accepted the challenge to spend two hours of their Saturday to learn defensive and combative tactics from Krav Maga Jackson. Sammons is the Chief Instructor and owner of Krav Maga Jackson. Carter is one of his instructors and also teaches defensive tactics to Rankin SO employees. Krav Maga is used by the Israeli Army and is translated to "contact combat." It consists of using violent and aggressive moves and strikes against an attacker. The training was offered at this time to coincide the April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month. There was a morning class and then an afternoon class. The ladies were from all professions and ranged in age from 16 to 67. Sheriff Bailey plans to offer more of these classes if the demand exists. Future plans include offering fire arms training by the Sheriff and three other deputies that recently received their instructor certificate from the NRA for handguns. We have all heard the saying, "law enforcement is only minutes away when seconds count." We hope personal attacks never happen, but the truth is, you never know when an attacker will try to make you a victim. A special thanks goes to Chief Instructor Rusty Sammons, Investigator Wayne Carter and the other ten instructors who donated their time with hopes of sharing knowledge and skills with ladies of Rankin County that may save a life someday. We also want to thank DA Michael Guest for his support in making this event possible.

Press Release Sheriff Bryan Bailey April 13, 2017 Reservoir Fire Station along with Fireman’s Vehicles Burglarized Thursday morning around 7:00 a.m. Rankin County Deputies were dispatched to the Reservoir Fire Station, on Spillway Road, for a report of multiple automobile burglaries. Four firefighter’s personal vehicles and one fire department vehicle were burglarized. There were very few items noted as missing from the vehicles, although all had been entered. The items noted as missing were sunglasses, gas can, medication and a stainless steel coffee mug. Investigator Wayne Carter was assigned as lead investigator. Investigator Carter was familiar with this location since he worked two commercial burglaries in August of 2015 at the Reservoir Library, which is located in the front portion of the fire station. ALLEN C. BURLEIGH was arrested in those previous burglaries. Investigator Carter went to BURLEIGH’S residence, which is across Spillway Road from the fire station, to question BURLEIGH. Inside of BURLEIGH’S vehicle, in plain view, Investigator Carter observed the stolen glasses and stolen gas can. Based on his observation, a search warrant was obtained for the residence and vehicles. When deputies and other investigators arrived to execute the search warrant, BURLEIGH was standing outside and was placed into custody without incident. Inside of BURLEIGH’S vehicle, investigators recovered the sunglasses, gas can, prescription medication and coffee mug reported as stolen. Also located in the vehicle was a toolkit Reservoir Fire personnel identified from the fire engine inside the fire station. At that point, it was discovered BURLEIGH had entered a back door to the fire station and removed the toolkit from the engine. There were no stolen items located inside of the residence, however, drug paraphernalia was recovered from both the residence and BURLEIGH’S vehicle. BURLEIGH will be facing charges in Rankin County Justice Court for petit larceny as well as one count of commercial burglary and one count of vehicle burglary. BURLEIGH is currently being held without bond pending his initial appearance before Rankin County Court Judge Kent McDaniel. I think it is despicable someone would burglarize the very people who are there to provide protection to them. This case was solved in a matter of hours due to the work of deputies and investigators we have at the Sheriff’s Department. I only regret we are not able to solve all property crimes with such ease.
