The Mayor and Board of Aldermen would like to invite you to attend the Spring Town Hall Meeting for an update on the "Building Blocks" of our community. The meeting will take place at the Acworth Municipal Courtroom located at 4408 Acworth Industrial Drive (adjacent to the Police Station). It will occur on Wednesday, April 19th beginning at 6:30 PM. On March 2nd Parks and Recreation Director James Albright, along with Alderman Butch Price, Sylvia Flanagan and Cyndi McLaughlin recognized and presented certificates to the Arbor Day Poster Contest Winners that included students from McCall Primary, Acworth Intermediate, Frey Elementary, Cornerstone Preparatory Academy and Brookwood Christian schools. Mr. Albright acknowledged principals Thomas Farrell from McCall Primary, Jeanne Borders from Cornerstone Preparatory Academy and Kim Wigington from Brookwood Christian School who were in attendance for the presentation.

On March 2nd Alderman Brett North recognized Ben Flanagan as the 2017 Cobb Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award Winner. Alderman North presented Mr. Flanagan with a proclamation for his devotion and dedication to the Acworth community. Mr. Flanagan has served on the Acworth Planning and Zoning Board for thirty five years and his investments in this community have positively influenced the quality of life.

The 2017 Special Olympics Polar Plunge hosted by the Law Enforcement Torch Run For Georgia will take place at Acworth Beach at Cauble Park on Saturday February 25. Gates open at 11:00 a.m. and the Plunge begins at 1:00 p.m. The purpose behind the Polar Plunge is to support and spread awareness for the 27,110 Special Olympics Georgia athletes. The Polar Plunge is the largest fundraising effort benefiting Special Olympics. Many states across the nation participate in this annual event through the efforts of their Law Enforcement Torch Run program. The Polar Plunge is an official Law Enforcement Torch Run event. Anyone with a little guts and a warm heart wanting to support the athletes of Special Olympics Georgia is welcome to participate! Participants collect pledges from friends and family in exchange for the opportunity to jump into icy waters in the middle of winter. All proceeds collected by “plungers” will benefit the athletes of Special Olympics Georgia. Prizes will be awarded in several categories, including best costume, highest individual fundraiser, highest team fundraiser, and many more. Grab some friends, get pumped and register today! On Friday, February 10, the City of Acworth held a ribbon cutting at D-BAT West Cobb. D-BAT is the Premier Baseball and Softball training facility in the country. In addition to private baseball and softball lessons, they offer pitching machines with real baseballs and softballs, a fully-stocked Pro shop, over 50 camps and clinics and more.
