Lakeshore Railroad
Description
The only public, steam working 9 1/2 inch gauge railway in the UK, the railway meanders through the trees giving great views of the boating lake. Running for just under a third of a mile round the boating lake, the tracks meander through the trees and over the level crossings before arriving back at the station.
A cafe' can also be enjoyed on site with what is quoted as "the best view seen from a cafe'" due to the large open viewing of the train running by.
Open in excess of 200 days a year, do come and have a trip whether your young or just young at heart!

facebook.comSadly once again due to the awful weather we had made to decision to remain closed. The temperature at the railway is in the region of - 2 so we recommend folks stay home and keep warm. Ryan has got his flask of tea but that will only last so long. We shall try again next weekend. Sorry for any disappointment.
Due to the poor weather we have sadly made the decision to not open today. We hope for better weather tomorrow.
Because yesterday was cancelled due to the bad weather, we decided today was a 2 train day (not because the drivers couldn’t decide on one engine 😀)!
Unfortunately due to the poor weather we have made the decision to stay closed today. Sorry for any disappointment. Tomorrows forecast looks much nicer so hopefully we will see you all then.
Flyer is out on test proving new pipework to the injectors. All is good and it seemed a shame not to have a cheeky play while she was in steam.
After a few steady weeks on and off, Adielas tender is finally finished after receiving a new water tank, re profiled wheels, a re paint and plumbing necessary for a second injector. Now the final big push on the loco itself beckons!
Although we gave yesterday a go we have taken the decision to stay closed today. Hopefully trains will resume as normal next weekend.
* Service Announcement * Despite the very windy weather, we ARE RUNNING our usual service today, your locomotive being Mountaineer. We advise all of our prospective passengers to wrap up warm as it is currently 0°C but feels colder still with the wind chill factor.
In a bid to keep on top of the snow Rockclimber has been out ploughing as seen here taking a run at a drift in the cutting. The circuit is now clear but for how long?
It's a little bit snowy at the railway today. Keep a close eye on our page as if the weather remains as bad as forecast we may not be operating over the weekend. A more accurate idea of this will be known on Friday so stay tuned.
Workshop Update. Over the last week or so Adielas overhaul has taken some great steps forward. Liam has finished work on the left side motion and will begin on the right side this week. Ryan spent the majority of the week working on the tender which includes a good clean down, dismantling the bogies and re-profiling the wheels. These have since been re-assembled and now the main focus is the replacement water tank and a repaint. This is expected to be all complete by the weekend. The smokebox is now not being replaced due to a decision tying in with a future project. This speeds up the whole job no end. Hopefully the smokebox and boiler will be re-fitted this week and also re-painted along with the cab. All that remains after that is to finish and assemble the motion, fit the last pair of driving wheels and the necessary plumbing for the boiler inspection. Milo has been overseeing the work as usual and shows us that safety is most important and dogs are by no means exempt. We think he looks the part in his safety glasses.
