Great afternoon with my mates Nelly Taylor Chris Baker! Another new permission, my step sons farm. We had the brief off him saying the problems are starlings, magpies and rats. Due to starlings not on the general hunting list we could only shoot the other 2 species. So we carried about a recce of the farm to find out the problem areas and put a plan in place. The cow shed where the young bullocks are feeding was chosen as our killing area! We had a quick chat and decided to scale up a 10 foot wall and into the hay bails and set up a ambush position. Shooting from here gave us a lot of shadow down at ground level, so need for a screen to conceal us. Chris and Nelly was using .20 Hw100’s. I decided to use my .177 Hw100. The .20 certainly proved it can old it’s own out to 50 yards, picking off magies off the gates at the other end of the cow shed. The final figure was 11 magpies and 10 rats which we left in situ due to some very aggressive young bulls not wanting us in the pens to pick them up!
