What a wonderful finale to our 2016 operating season!

Last operating day of the season at Dunaskin. We've had a great day, with the busiest day of the year. Today saw the introduction into service of our ex LMS Inspection Saloon, a real red letter day for the Ayrshire Railway Preservation Group. Also featuring today was our unusual Fireless locomotive, built in Kilmarnock by Andrew Barclay, Sons & Co. in 1928. A real crowd pleaser. We were also delighted to host Ayr Burners Cycling Group, who came along with their mini bikes and equipment to entertain and teach the wee ones essential balance skills. Thanks to them for all their help and assistance. Ayrshire Railway Preservation Group would like to thank all of our visitors during the 2016 operating season. We hope you have enjoyed the Scottish Industrial Railway Centre. As always, we need more volunteers to help run our Centre, in every department, including locomotive crew, train crew, retail and tearoom. Training will be provided as required. More volunteers means we could open more frequently. Please consider becoming involved. Please see our website - www.scottishindustrialrailwaycentre.org.uk

The final Steam Day at Dunaskin this year will take place on Sunday 25th September, from 11am - 4pm. We'll have both of our operational steam locomotives working, No. 10 on the frequent brakevan passenger service, and our unusual fireless running short demonstrations each hour on the hour. As an extra treat for our final Steam Day, we'll also have Ayr Burners Cycling in attendance, providing exciting opportunities aimed primarily at the under five year olds to gain balancing skills in a safe environment. Ayr Burners Cycling is a community development group with the aim of promoting cycling opportunities in Ayrshire. Our usual souvenir will be open, and the tearoom will be providing much needed refreshments, such as teas, coffees, soft drinks, confectionery, sandwiches, etc. Our steam model railway will be in action, and our Kiddies Corner will entertain the wee ones.
Fireless Locomotive at Dunaskin
Fireless locomotive AB 1952 of 1928 giving demonstration runs at the Scottish Industrial Railway Centre on Sunday 28th August. The only working fireless locomotive in the UK will be in steam again on Sunday 25th September 2016 - your last chance to see it this year! (The loud steam noise comes from Number 10, just out of shot on the left.)
