Its been 2 weeks since the start of this years Oktoberfest, and it has taken us the last five days, to take a breather, clear up and get rid of everything until next year. Thank you so much to everyone who liked shared and invited their friends to our festival, and off course thanks to everyone who braved the worst weather we could have ever imagined to come join us for a litre or two of the finest Bavarian Beers. This festival started because we at Grounded Espresso Bars wanted to inject a little bit of life into Newry's Night time economy, and to this day, this is still our manifesto. We got over 5000 people from Newry and beyond into our marquee over two weekends. These 5000 helped us make a festival whereby about £80,000.00 pounds went directly into Newry based businesses, from our fancy toilets, to powering the festival, to the tent and don't forget the beer...so we would like to thank you all, each and everyone of you on our suppliers behalf. Lets say after leaving our festival, those 5000, got a taxi, went to another bar or venue, had a few more tipples, got a wee kebab or a burger, got a taxi home...its not really inconceivable that these 5000 people spent an additional £45 quid before they got home. Thats around £225,000.00 pounds that has been injected into Newry City businesses, and by all accounts, we see this as a great success! We need festivals like ours and others that attract people into Newry, and they must be encouraged and aided by those who can. A massive thanks to Ciaran and Gerard in the THE RAILWAY BAR who without...there would be no Newry Oktoberfest, so please be kind, call in for a bottle of wine or a few beers in the off sales on Monaghan Street, or frequent the Trad session on a thursday, the quiz on a tuesday and the other Irish and Cultural events they host....It really is the best local a guy could ask for! I think we done well, a new location at Albert Basin Park Project (it would be a fine recreational area), thon storm Oleia or what ever she was called, her mate Brian, an extra weekend...all things considering, we enjoyed ourselves, maybe for the first time since our first year in 2012. And we are over the moon so many of you enjoyed yourselves too...(even though theres no dancing on tables) I've smelt of diesel and spilled beer for the last two weeks...and i'm happy I now don't..but I, we can't wait until Newry Oktoberfest 2018 to do it all again! Prost until 2018!
