The second round of the Captains` Challenge was played on October 29th the last competition prior to the 2017-18 winter league. This is a Ryder Cup format with captain Gordon Miller`s team against past captain Duncan Lauder`s team One unusual hazard for this season was a bright orb in the sky which dazzled the players! The course was soft but in great condition despite the deluge from the day before. The result on the day was 2 points each (a halved match), Gordon`s team now leads the series 6-5, with the final round of the series to be played on the 17th December. Mention must be made of 70+evergreen Billy McLaughlin who was out in 31 shots (11putts) However, the real winners were the club`s chosen charity for this year, The Cystic Fibrosis Trust, as another donation was made from the members (£120.00 and counting)

Cowal GC player Chris Carson won the Royal Hotel Trophy one of the (“majors”) on the Cowal golfing circuit with a gross score of 68 Chris said it was his best back nine holes over Innellan (32) played in driving rain and wind. The early starters got the best of the draw as the afternoon players had to endure monsoon conditions, it was a credit to the green staff that the course held up so well. The Tom Muir Trophy for best net was won by Rab MacNaughton 80-17-63 who edged out Club Captain Gordon Miller by deed of better inward half On presenting the trophies and raffle prizes Captain thanked sponsors Cowal Building and Plumbing Supplies for continued support throughout the years, the marvellous green staff and all who contributed to the raffle Net Results 1st R MacNaughton 80-17-63 BIH 2nd G Miller 75-12-63 3rd A Edgar 87-22-65 4th Tied W McCosh/S Campbell/G Livingston 66 Gross 1st C Carson 68 2nd D Hunter 71 3rd G Livingston 73
