We're looking after a big-hearted, adorable Pointer called Diz at the moment while his Mum & Dad are off skiing. He's an incredibly handsome chap with the loveliest nature. On Sunday we took him for a good walk around Chicksands Woods, which he loved, before heading over to Keith & Jo's for Sunday lunch with them, Chris (nephew and birthday boy!), Maddie (niece) and their two spaniels, Flash & Bailey. I think Flash and Bailey thought we'd brought a horse into the house but they all got along great and it took Diz all of 30 seconds to go into complete relax mode. A great lunch was had by all. Thanks, Jo!!!

Cats can be sooooooo mean :-)

A trio of Siamese cats makes for an interesting housesitting assignment. Mae is a very vocal cat who spends a lot of time telling you what she wants, especially at breakfast and supper time, while Mia is quite shy but has come out of her shell the last day or two. The third cat Milo is super confident but has a dog complex and insists on playing 'fetch' with his toy mouse each evening. He brings it over, we have to throw it and he then retrieves it so we can do it all over again. They are extremely cute and adorable, and we are thoroughly enjoying looking after them.

Just heard the so upsetting news that Toby, a Beagle, for whom we housesit has sadly passed away. Toby was a real character... playful, mischievous and a total joy. We had a great time looking after him and his buddy, Hughie. Toby loved a fuss and wasn't keen on me spending hours working at the PC. Once he had decided enough was enough, he'd either climb up on the chair alongside me to demand attention or, if that didn't do it, he'd leap into my lap, despite him being over-large for a lap dog :-) I know Gemma, Paul and Hughie will so miss him. We have huge fond memories of him and I'm sure they have a limitless fund of fond memories to draw on at this sad time.

Our house sit looking after Milo and Lola (two rescue dogs) and rescue cat, Ollie, is sadly coming to an end. Ollie, the cat, is very much 'top dog', if that isn't a contradiction in terms :-) She is a big enormously friendly cat who looks a bit like Garfield. Ollie is allowed on the sofa but the dogs aren't and, as she sheds a lot of hair, Lynn puts down a towel for her. The other day I headed upstairs to work in the office, leaving the cat 'sofa-settled' on the towel and the dogs on their beds. Usually the dogs follow me up to occupy their bed on the landing but they didn't come. When I went down to investigate, I discovered the cat had vacated the sofa, Milo had climbed up in her place thinking it would surely be okay if he curled up on the towel, as that can't count as being on the sofa. Lola also climbed up but as there was no space left on the towel which Milo had managed to gather under him, her elegant solution was to lie on top of Milo. He didn't seem at all unhappy with the arrangement :-)

Managed to meet up with virtuoso violinist, conductor and great friend Boris Peck and his lovely daughter, Safiya, yesterday afternoon. They brought their terrific little dog, Sunny, for a pack walk with Milo and Lola, the two rescue dogs we are currently looking after. We all made the most of autumn's fast-disappearing late afternoon sunshine with a stroll along the banks of the River Ivel. Safiya is dog crazy and not only helped walk our dogs but also brought along her own stuffed toy Dalmation, imaginatively called 'Spotty'. Spotty suffered the indignity of being hauled through the grass (and worse) on his lead (a piece of string) but was picked up periodically to have the leaves and dead grass that were stuck to him, removed. I was flattered to be offered the chance to stroke Spotty, having been solemnly reassured by Safiya that he hadn't been 'flead'. Clearly, many dog owners were sharing the same thought as we met loads of dogs and owners en-route. Milo particularly hit it off with a Husky/Malamute cross called Rufus and they had an especially boisterous play together. The excitement was clearly contagious as even the impressively laid-back Lola broke into a trot once or twice. It's time we had double summer time! It's a nonsense to be moving the clocks and drawing in the evenings in just a couple of weeks time. Wonderful also to see Vicky and their other girls but had to give the offer of a 'cuppa' a miss. I reckon three adults, three girls and three dogs may have overloaded the house :-)

Based in Arlesey at the moment looking after two fantastic rescue dogs called Milo and Lola, plus a massive and gorgeous rescue cat called Ollie. When out for walks Milo just runs the whole time while Lola ambles about sniffing. We had them out walking around the Green Lagoon and nearby fields and Milo ran for the full hour. He runs until he gets what he thinks is too far away and then runs all the way back, at which point he sets off again, repeating this ad infinitum for the full duration of the walk. They are extremely well behaved and well balanced dogs and we're having a great time looking after them. I'll put some photos of Ollie up on my next post in a day or so, as we think he has something of the look of Garfield about him :-)
