facebook.comHOLIDAY CLOSURE 🛫☉🏝 My Rescue is now closed for admissions until THURSDAY 2ND NOVEMBER If you find a Hedgehog in need of help please contact the BRITISH HEDGEHOG PRESERVATION SOCIETY ON 01584 890801 who have a full database of Rescues throughout the UK If you live within my Rescues area and can't find a Rescue to help, take Hoggie to a vet IF it is injured. If you have weighed it as you think it is too small for hibernation, i will gladly take it on my return. Keeping a Hoggie for a few days or a week will obviously stress it, however, PLEASE DO NOT PUT IT BACK OUT as it will not survive hibernation. Keep it in a warm dry large container with bedding, cat/dog food & water in a quiet place.. Thank you
3 MORE PRICKLES ARRIVE 😊 Another 3 underweight prickles arrive for overwintering at the Rescue. I am also off to collect another this morning first thing. Thank you to all of you for looking out for the baby prickles who are still underweight for hibernation 😊👍 PLEASE keep feeding our Prickly Friends to help get them to hibernation weight of 650g minimum. Cat/Dog food will bulk them up quickly 😊 Thank you 👍
110G BABY PRICKLE SAT ON A LAWN 😍 Well another busy day yesterday 3 more Hoggies into the Rescue including this Baby Prickle who only weighs 110g 😚 She was found by an elderly couple sat on the back lawn around lunch time, i was with them within 15 minutes to collect her and check out the garden for a nest. I have no idea where she came from the garden was small with hardly any bushes, hedges or plants so i can only assume she made her way into the garden from a neighbours 😏 We have alerted the neighbours to look out for any siblings that may be around. I am off out this morning to collect another Prickle from the same garden i have already collected 2 from in the last week Thank you to everyone for your continued support for our Prickly Friends 😊👍 http://pricklyballlodge.co.uk/
BABY PRICKLE IN A DRAIN !! This male baby prickle was found trapped in a drain with just it's head above water. He was cold, wet & very wobbly on arrival yesterday afternoon, however after 4 hours on a heatpad in the ICU he was up and about and tucking into a dish of cat food 👍 Another underweight Hoggie also came in on Saturday to be overwintered 😊 Please visit my Amazon wishlist to help with items needed or you can donate via PayPal to help me overwinter these Baby Prickles 😊 http://pricklyballlodge.co.uk/ Thank you 😊👍
BLUSTERY WEATHER 🌬🍁🍂 Well the weather is certainly very Autumnal, however those small Prickles are out & about. Another Prickle was brought in last evening weighing 246g 😊 I still have 2 lots of Mothers with hoglets here and I am certain they won't be the last for this year, so please keep a look out when clearing gardens as you may have a nest with babies 👍 Thank you 😊👍 http://pricklyballlodge.co.uk/ for my Amazon wishlist & paypal 😊👍
LOOK WHO I FOUND 😍 What a busy day yesterday I covered 80 miles collecting 4 underweight Hoggies in for overwintering and whilst out on my travels, I ended up doing an emergency stop as I spotted this little Prickle sat on a grass verge 😙 I also had a Prickle brought in last evening who was trapped in a drain, very wet, cold & wobbly. However after a few hours in the ICU on a heatpad she has a full tummy and is sleeping 😴 PLEASE keep supporting my Rescue in any way you can to enable me to continue to run Prickly Ball Lodge 😊 http://pricklyballlodge.co.uk/ Thank you 😊👍
HOGGIE CAUGHT UP IN FISHING LINE & BRAMBLES 😏 This poor Hoggie was found near a fishing lake with fishing line around its body caught up in brambles. The finder got it to a vet who gave it a small amount of gas to enable them to cut the fishing line off him. He has been brought to the Rescue for rehab as the fishing line had cut into him 😏 He is currently tucking into a dish of cat food 😊 luckily no permanent damage to him, he weighs 320g so will remain here overwinter 😊
LOOK OUT FOR HOGGIES IN THE LEAVES 🍂🍁 As the leaves are falling fairly quickly now, PLEASE when clearing them away make sure none of our prickly friends are sleeping under them😴 Another 3 underweight Prickles arrived at the Rescue on Saturday for overwintering 😊 I went on a 40 mile round trip at 8am yesterday morning to collect a 180g Baby Prickle found out & about in daylight 😊 Please keep looking out for those small Baby Prickles who won't survive hibernation, my motto is GRAB & WEIGH you won't harm them to quickly weigh them and if they are at least 500g put them back out as they still have time to bulk up to the 650g .. Thank you 😊👍
COLLECT THOSE LEAVES 🍁🍂 As Autumn is upon us and you start to clear your gardens, collect the dry leaves and bag them up ready to place in your Hoggie houses for our Prickly Friends 😊 A nice dry house with some dry bedding will certainly entice Hoggies looking for somewhere to hibernate 😴 Enjoy the weekend 👍
MORE BABY PRICKLES ARRIVING 😍 Yet another Baby Prickle out & about alone in the day. This little prickle a female weight 120g was found in an elderly couples garden trying to eat bird food from the bottom of the bird table. 😊 They managed to catch her and called me straightaway, i was with them within 15 mins to collect her. Sadly the Hoggie i was collecting from the veterinary hospital had just passed away whilst i was waiting to collect it.. The Vet and myself had had the discussion about the eye being removed and the vet agreed to do the procedure and that i would take it for rehab. It survived the operation and lasted 36 hours. My thanks to the Vet for carrying out the procedure, we were hoping for a happier ending, sadly we can't save them all 😓 3 more baby prickles are arriving today for overwintering All between 100G & 250G Getting rather busy with Baby Prickles here so please keep supporting me, every penny counts. http://pricklyballlodge.co.uk/ Thank you 😊👍
ANOTHER BABY PRICKLE 😊 This little Hoggie was brought in last evening weighing just 210g found out & about in the day, perfectly healthy just underweight with hibernation just around the corner.... I am off to a Vets this morning to collect a Hoggie who has had to have an eye removed due to injury. It will remain here for rehab although it will go back to the wild at some point probably next Spring as it only weighs 310g.. We are running low on mealworms if anyone would like to help. PLEASE NOTE dried mealworms are only given in a very small quantity in a mixture of hedgehog food, they are NOT to be given as a main food source as they do not contain anything that would bulk a Hoggie up and studies have proved feeding Mealworms alone can cause bone disease.. Only Cat/Dog food can give them the nutrition they need to gain the weight for hibernation.. http://pricklyballlodge.co.uk/ Thank you 😊👍
MUM & HER 4 BABY PRICKLES 😙 I went & collected our Mum & 4 baby prickles this morning. They are settling in nicely in a new home. I also collected 2 more after that & have had 2 more brought in, all will need over wintering unless they reach the 650g mark 😏
