Kaleidoscope is an annual two-day conference hosted by research students at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge. This year, the 13th Kaleidoscope Conference was held on the 26th-27th of May. It was a good opportunity to exchange ideas, find inspiration and share research! The theme was 'Mind the gap: Bridging theory and practice in educational research". Theory provides researchers with a frame of reference, a general guideline and a variety of suggestions. Practice examines the applicability of a theory in specific contexts and hence is more associated with facing real problems. Theory dies if it is not connected to reality. Practice seems inaccurate if it is not based on theory. But what actually happens in the field of education which requires both theoretical and practical perspectives? Where do researchers focus and why? How can we bridge the gap between theory and practice through educational research? These are the main topics that were discussed in the 13th Kaleidoscope conference.
