Fire Appliance Incident - Kitchen Fire Date: 22/11/2017 Time: 00:08 Location: Outskirts of Yarnscombe Area: Central County: Devon One fire appliance from Torrington, one from Barnstaple and one from Bideford were sent to a report of a fire in a property at the above location. On arrival crews confirmed that there was a fire in the kitchen and that all persons were out of the property. The fire involved a dishwasher which was removed to open air by Fire Service personnel. Two breathing apparatus, 1 hose reel jet, 1 safety jet, a thermal image camera, a positive pressure ventilation fan and gas detection equipment were all used to deal with the incident.

Fire Appliance Incident - Person Rescued From Mud Date: 19/11/2017 Time: 02:14 Location: The Quay, Bideford Area: Central County: Devon 2 fire appliances from Bideford, together with our Special Rescue Team from Barnstaple, were mobilised following a request from Ambulance for our assistance to help rescue a female casualty who had become stuck in the mud. Whilst en route we were informed by the Police, who were in attendance but had not entered the water, that the females head was being held above water by someone on a boat. Fire Control also furnished our crews with tide times to assist with their preparation. Shortly after we arrived our crews liaised with Police and Ambulance to formulate a plan, before effecting a rescue. 02:43hrs - Bideford crews were working to access the casualty using dry suits, a 105 ladder, Safe Working at Height and Confined Spaces and Water Safety equipment, together with lighting, whilst our Special Rescue Team set up their equipment. By 02:48hrs access had been made to the casualty and she was subsequently rescued by 02:59hrs, where crews then slowly made their way from the mud mats back to the quayside. At 03:05 we confirmed she was back on dry land and in the hands of paramedics, who took on duty of care for the patient and the incident.

Incident - Domestic property fire Date: 13/11/2017 Time: 17:13 Location: Torrington Street, Bideford Area: Central County: Devon Two appliances from Bideford station were mobilised to a report of a fire in a domestic property on Torrington Street, Bideford. On arrival crews found a fire in the downstairs bathroom of the property, so set to work using two breathing apparatus sets and one hose reel jet to attack the fire. They also isolated the gas and electricity supply to the property. At 17:45 crews confirmed the fire had been extinguished. A thermal imaging camera was used to check for hotspots, and a positive pressure ventilation fan used to ventilate the house. The fire caused 20% fire damage and 60% smoke damage to the bathroom. The rest of the property suffered 10% smoke damage. The cause was determined to be accidental.

Fire Appliance Incident - Hazardous Chemical Spillage Date: 06/11/2017 Time: 11:09 Location: Mill Street, Bideford, Devon Area: Central County: Devon The fire service were called to a property where a cleaner had been trying to unblock drains but had mixed two chemicals together. The chemicals had reacted to each other and caused the pipes to split and the mixture to cover the gentleman. Two crews from Bideford, one appliance and the environmental protection unit from South Molton attended. On arrival the crews located the casualty and immediately got to work irrigating him in the environmental shower until he was removed to hospital by air ambulance. Two breathing apparatus crews entered the building and located the chemical container which was removed to the open air. The property was handed over to the owner and advice given about specialist cleaning.
