Doug Robinson - How End Winter League Legend
It’s back! 12 rounds of the most eagerly awaited team competition in match fishing - “The How End Winter League”. This year sees the return of some infamous partnerships, some swingers (Ben Blank) and some new faces. The scene was set as we all descended upon Danis and Yasis for round 1. Before the all in, the all important task of confirming team names and there are some corkers this time out. King Dong carrying 4” bar, camouflage condoms so they can’t see us coming and Also Rans - we’re not Michael where amongst my favourites. What sets this league apart from the rest is the banter and there was no holding back in round 1. Doug Robinson on Yasis took some early abuse from resident mouth almighty Titch. Doug, like the rest of us from our end of the lake, was struggling to get things going early on. Titch in his own way offered words of support to which Dougie responded “ it’s not a marathon it’s a race”. Well that was enough to set the piss take bar for round 1 if not the series. Think you might not have heard the last of that Doug! Simon D set the early pace on peg15 but once again the pressure of the golden peg took its toll and he settled for a respectable 2nd place. With Tim Jones out of action for round 1, his replacement Rhonan took top spot on the day and 20 points for the team. With Pete Currell coming second on Dani’s, 38 from a max of 40 points was a great start for the Jolly Green Giants. Elsewhere Pebs had luck on his side by getting his rig in a tangle and at the same time hooking and managing to land a valuable addition to his net. Mark Wells started where he left off in last years competition bagging his first 20 points of the campaign, we’ll done partner 😁. 3rd spot on Yasis went to John Gallon and get this ...... his partner, a transformed Dave Lay, broke through the 10lb barrier in round 1, bit different to last year Dave. 😂 Baz Smith may of had the summer off but he proved form is permanent taking 3rd place on Dani’s. So here’s what the first team table looks like 1. Jolly Green Giants 38pts 2. King Dong..... 34pts 3. Absolutely No ide ear 31pts 4. Fix the Draw 30pts 5. Fishy Fingers 28pts 6. Split ends 26pts 7. Peche la pue 26pts 8. Unlikely Lads 25pts 9. Last again as usual 22pts 10. Also Rans - where not Michael 19pts 11. Sad Hatters 17pts 12. Camouflage condoms 17pts 13. Draw bag & Chunky 16pts 14. Dobbing in the wind 16pts 15. Older and old Git 16 Pts 16. Cunning Stunts 10pts Spare a thought for Cunning Stunts as they sit languishing at the foot of the table 😔. Remember the wise words from Dougie.... It’s a marathon not a race 😂😂😂😂😂 See you all for Rnd 2 in a fortnight. Darren
So, round 1 of the How End Winter League and the famous scribe, Dazza James is back to tell the story. Coming to a fb post near you soon !!!!!!
That’s the winter league lake draw for this year if you can’t be bothered to watch the video
Winter league draw !!!
So, first round of our silvers league experiment and it exceeded my expectations. In a way, it's a shame that it wasn't a normal open because half the field claimed they would have had 100lb plus because of all the Barbel and Carp they put back, but we all know anglers 😀😂🤣Never the less, I did have reservations that the Ide would shoal up and we'd have a big weight on one peg but not so good follow ups. However, they seemed to be more spread out, with over half the field recording over 20lb of Silvers, leading to a very tight result. Going forward, it should prove really interesting as some anglers managed to find ways of avoiding carp, while others struggled, I think everyone learned a bit !!!. Paul Abbott won on the day, with a weight of 29-14, including 14-6 of fish less than 4oz, very impressive, just pipping Tony Taylor who had 29-2. Top 6 were: Paul Abbott - 29-14 Tony Taylor - 29-2 Doug Robinson - 28-9 Ian Knightley - 25-0 Ken Kendall - 23-4 Colin Forsdick - 21-6 Next match is a an open this Saturday coming on Dani's with all fish counting, while the following Saturday sees round 2 of the Silver League, again on Dani's, which, with its much more diverse amount of silvers species, including Tench, Crucian's, Bream, Roach, Rudd, Chub and Perch should prove very interesting
Nearly there, first ever How End silver series kicks off this Saturday !!! May have one or two places still left as I'm waiting for confirmation from a couple
Well, that's the How End 2 dayer done for another year and what a year this was. With the inclement weather, the fishing wasn't as good as it has been in previous years or even previous weeks leading up to the event but nevertheless, a very tight fair weekend of matches occurred and the Saturday night barbe lived up to its normal raucous self, especially Pablo Four-inch-ibar (commonly known as our very own Simon Drozdziol). Thanks to all that attended, I can't believe it was 2 days ago already but I'm still recovering !!!!! Anyhow, over to the results: Top 6 on each lake on each day were as follows: Dani's Day 1: 1) Andy Rayment 69-8 2) Neil Smith 68-6 3) Tim Jones 61-0 4) Paul Boltryk 58-14 5) Colin Kidd 55-10 6) Darryl Anderson 55-0 Yasi's Day 1 1) Mark Newbold 98.0 2) Doug Robinson 91.14 3) Pebs 73.8 4) Andy Quarmby 73.0 5) Mark Quick 61.12 6) Ricky Quick 57.8 Dani's Day 2 1) Mark Quick 79-10 2) Trev Jeans 73-12 3) Mark Newbold 73.6 4) Paul Stacey 72.14 5) Pebs 71.12 6) Doug Robinson 70.2 Yasi's Day 2 1) Andy Rayment 97.6 2) Neil Smith 69.10 3) Tim Jones 65.4 4) Darryl Anderson 59.0 5) Nelly 57.4 6) Colin Forsdick 54.14 Top 3 in the pairs were: 1) Andy Rayment and Andy Quick - 302.8 2) Neil Smith and Trev Jeans - 240.8 3) Mark Tricker and Pebs - 224.8 Overall, the top 10 on the weekend were: 1) Andy Rayment - 2 pts 2) Mark Newbold - 4 pts 171.6 3) Neil Smith - 4 pts 139.0 4) Mark Quick - 6 pts 141.6 5) Tim Jones - 6 pts 126.4 6) Doug Robinson - 8 pts 162 7) Pebs - 8 pts 145.4 8) Darryl Anderson 10 pts 9) Andy Quarmby 11 pts 10) Ricky Quick 12 pts Biggest Carp and winner of a 10' Garbo bomb Rod for a fish of a truly amazing and new record setting 14lb 4oz from Dani's Day 2 - Ricky Quick Biggest Barbel and winner of his own 10' Garbo bomb rod for a fish of 7lb 2oz from Yasi's Day 1 - Pebs Cheers all, looking forward to next year already !!!!
Well done How End Blue on getting through round 2 in the Supercup at another away draw to Johnson Matthey at Rookery Lakes. How End won 4-2 in what was very much a team effort by Titch, Ken Kendall, Tony Sal, Tim Jones, Colin Forsdick and Nick Rowe with Pebs and Nelly running the bank. Titch, Colin, Ken and Tony all won their sections and a shout out to Nick Rowe who provided some valuable info half way through the match that helped all the boys. Looking forward to the Semi's already !!!!!!
