Bank Report Sunday 1st April 2018 The last week of March started quite promisingly on Monday with Grahame Reid getting a fresh 10lb fish in the Kelpie on Middle Blackhall bank plus we lost 2 fish on Cairnton bank. Over the next couple of days we lost another 2 fish and landed a couple of kelts before George Boyne landed another fresh 8lb fish in the Malt Steep on Cairnton bank. I also got on the scoresheet on Friday with a 13lb fish from the Middle Ferroch on Cairnton. Prospects for this week are good, with milder conditions forecast for the second half of the week which might give another rise in water. Bank Report Sunday 25th March 2018 The last couple of weeks were very quiet on Cairnton and Middle Blackhall as far as fresh fish were concerned. We caught and saw kelts most days but apart from a couple of fish lost that felt good, the springers proved elusive. All that changed yesterday however, after a change to milder conditions and a sustained rise in water levels we landed 3 fresh fish, of which 2 were sea liced. George Boyne got his season of to a flyer with 2 fish of 9lb & 6lb on an 1 1/2” Alistair on the Middle Blackhall bank. Grahame Reid also opened his account for the season with a cracking 14lber on an 1 1/2” Black and orange also on the Middle Blackhall bank. With the water sitting at a good height and settled conditions we will hopefully get some more fish next week. It is with great sadness I have to inform you that my husband Brian Brogan who has been the ghillie at Cairnton for the past 6 years has unfortunately had to leave his post due to personal reasons. He thoroughly enjoyed his position at Cairnton and he would like to thank all his clients over the years who have been a part of his love for fishing and he is glad that he was able to help others catch their bars of silver. Brian hopes to be back on the river very soon to continue his 30+ year career in salmon fishing. At the moment we have a very knowledgeable man filling in for Brian, Andy Ashcroft, who knows the beat well and he will continue to provide the excellent service Cairnton is known for. What a great start to the season for Cairnton and Middle Blackhall. 2 great fish caught today. The fish in the water was caught in Glisters by Mark Melville, the head ghillie from Delfur and was 15lb. Nick Armstead is holding the second from the Grey Mare and was about 16lb. Hopefully many more to come in 2018.

It’s a very wet and cold start to the 2018 season but after warming up in the hut first, Graeme Caton and his party got things going by blessing the water before having the first cast. We were again joined by retired Cairnton ghillie Dave Cowie who played the pipes for the blessing. Tight lines everyone 🎣

We had quite a successful season in 2017 on Cairnton & Middle Blackhall with catches being; Salmon 156, Grilse 52 and Sea Trout 20. As in 2017, we will again be offering 4 rods on Cairnton & 3 rods on Middle Blackhall throughout the whole of the 2018 season with me covering both banks. The prices for fishing on Cairnton have been increased slightly however we are pleased to advise that we have reduced the price of fishing on Middle Blackhall and these rods will be at the same rate throughout the season. Also the access road through Middle Blackhall has been repaired and now cars can access all parts of the beat.
