Our Winter Show is not intended as a thematic exhibition and there is no overarching statement. The concept behind the show is simple: the gallery’s aim is to present some of our favorite artists and provide the audience, as well as the participating artists, with the opportunity to experience and be inspired by the art scene, both within and outside of, their own country. Showing: Arvida Byström, Lotta Antonsson, Ynvild Saeter, Linda Pedersen, Eva Mag, NUG, Ylva Carlgren and Duda Bebek.

GSB is proud to present AFTER LAUGHTER with Jesse Littlefield / Jon Pilkington / Mason Saltarrelli / Søren Sejr Opening on Friday 27th, 5 - 9 PM Welcome. The show gets it’s title from a 1964 single of the same name, sung by American singer Wendy Rene who’s wistfully crooned statement of “After laughter comes tears …” serves as a reminder to acknowledge the pleasures of the present. With Stockholm’s sweet relief of summer hastily becoming but a memory, and the world at large seeming to be ablaze, we wish to present an exhibition that can act as a jubilant now. The participating artists were invited because of their individually unique abstract expressions. Their respective oeuvres are united not only in their abundance of colour, but also in their connotative powers. All working from figurative inspirations, they manage to relay tangible objects and experiences as abstracts that are thrilling while relatable. Jesse Littlefield (b.1977) is an American artist based in Portland. In his work, he merges various techniques and mediums, mostly painting and screen-printing, to create abstract yet graphic motives. Jon Pilkington (b.1990) is an English artist currently based in Copenhagen. Pilkington is a painter, his canvasses are typically filled with unconventional colour choices and multi-layered compositions which generate a particularly rich expression. Mason Saltarelli (b. 1979) is an American artist based in Brooklyn. He is a painter with a clear allegiance to an instinct-driven visual language. He paints primarily on canvas, often leaving “empty” space in these that connote a sort of primitive imagery. Søren Sejr (b. 1981) is a Danish artist living and working in Aarhus. He paints motives ranging from collage-like myriads to ordered blocks of colour which resonate as something existing between system and intuition. After Laughter will be open until 25th November

Gallery Steinsland Berliner proudly presents: Antwan Horfee - Piggy Catastrophe 22nd September – 21st October Opening night: Friday 22nd September, 5-9 pm The rise of graffiti brought with it an order that was completely idiosyncratic in both style and attitude. Distancing itself from the the institutional art world, the practice created a cultural space within which freedom of expression served as cornerstone and creed rather than merely being touted as an ideal. Horfee first made his mark, quite literally, on the streets of Paris. He has become one of the most prolific and celebrated names within the field of graffiti, his art now gracing walls far beyond those of the French capital city. The artist’s eclectic interests and influences liaise in his unique style. Vintage comics and animation, mid-century movements in art and philosophy, an obvious attraction to colour and texture and a certain partiality to the the strange and chaotic aspects of life, art and the mind all take part in his aesthetic amalgam. Recent years have seen a shift of Horfee’s artistic paradigm. Moving part of his practice into galleries and studio spaces, his work has been subjected to an unavoidable contextual impact. The chaotic, boundless nature of his imagery is as present as ever but his work has taken on an increasingly abstract appearance. The show title “Piggy Catastrophe” refers to Horfee’s experience as an artist and individual. Humans being creatures of inspiration and aspiration, artists perhaps noticeably manifesting this more than others, there is a universal urge to understand and organize the mess of our surrounding world. Piggy Catastrophe presents an artist in dialogue with himself, coming to terms with the arranging of his lived life, his artistic expression and future direction. Antwan Horfee (b.1983) is a French mixed-media artist based in Paris. In addition to being an internationally acclaimed graffiti artist, he has exhibited his work in several gallery shows. Horfee studied at the School of Fine Arts in Paris. He is part of Paris’s PAL crew. The exhibition will run from September 22nd until October 21st

We at GSB/Gallery Steinsland Berliner are very proud to be participating in the 2017 edition of CHART art fair that will take place at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen between the 1-3 September. This occasion marks the fifth consecutive year that CHART has invited a select group of Nordic galleries to participate in an event that is created with the explicit aim of presenting and promoting Nordic contemporary art to an international audience. In it’s comparatively short existence, CHART has become the leading art fair of it’s kind, a testament not only to the prevalent interest that exists in regards to Nordic art, but also to the demand for an art fair that breaks away from a more traditional mould. In addition to the gallery exhibitions, CHART’s schedule offers up various talks, installations and other events that aid in creating a dynamic and engaging experience. From the gallery’s conception, GSB has operated in purposeful pursuit and support of artists active in the Nordic area and is therefore a natural ally to CHART’s initiative. We will be arriving at CHART with a selection of new paintings by three of our artists: Fredrik Åkum, Malin Gabriella Nordin and Danilo Stankovic. The artists share a particular affinity for nature, whether it be as a theme, setting or tool. While the span of their individual styles cover a multitude of expressions, from playfully abstract to cerebral and highly detailed, they share an emotional sensibility that is ever present in their work, resulting in a viewing experience that is undeniably poignant. By showing these artists together, we hope to present a sort of microcosm in which the ancient Nordic tradition of turning to nature for inspiration, explanation and meditation continues. As part of a screening program at the fair we will also show NUG's Territorial Pissing during these days.
