St. Paul's Anglican Church, Kano
Description
The St. Pauls foundation was laid on 16th feb, 1980 under the Anglican Communion of Kano Diocese. And till date is under the leadership of his lordship Bishop Zakka L Nyam and Rev Samuel Uzezi Odievu as the parish priest It is important to point out that, from the beginning of the history of the early worshipper and their various venue of worship the name of the church has not been mention and there is no group of worshipper without a name or the name of the church.
The worshipper discovered that the church had increased in population to make up a church and had a convenient venue of worship, they decided to have a name which the church will be known for. It was named after a church in the Anglican Communion in IKPIDE and OZORO in Isoko land.
The URHOBORS were not left out in the foundation of the church, despite the fact that they were not among the founders in the 1940’s they join the worshipper as the population increase in the 1960’s as the population increased the pattern of worship change such that the 1st lesson was normally read in Isoko language and the 2nd was in Urhobor language etc. Other Isoko people become attracted to the mode of worship hence everything was done in Isoko and Urhobor languages
In the 1970’s after the war, the members had increased numerically and the church made an appeal to her church the Cathedral church of Holy trinity Kano, for a piece of land. In 1977, the request was granted, and a piece of land was given to the church at no 101-103 Yoruba road, sabon gari kano. Behind the holy trinity school. The Bishop of the northern Nigeria Rev. RT Ogboyomi appointed Rev. Can. Adesola was the Vicar incharge of the cathedral church kano, to oversee the church.
They conducted holy communion, baptism and thanks giving services. With the arrival of Rev. Samuel Owologba an Indigene of Isoko land in 1978 brought a change to the system. He was assisting Rev. Can. Adesola
Rev also conducted his first baptism for infant and adult at the cathedral church of holy trinity kano. In addition, he prepared women to be admitted into the women guild and blessing of marriage for those who have wedded in the church. He also formed a building committee out of the parochial church committee.
They held their 1st meeting on 8th November, 1979. These committee was charge with the responsibility of laying the foundation and the building of the church.
The creation of kano diocese and the enthronement of Bishop BB Ayam hastened up the laying of the church foundation which was laid on the 16th February, 1980 by the Bishop.
Till Date the church is still waxing strong and is presently under the leadership of his lordship Bishop Zakka L Nyam and Rev. Samuel Uzezi Odievu as the parish priest.
