Match Report - Bray 5 v Gorey H C A beautiful Autumn Saturday saw Gorey Ladies Hockey travel to Loreto Bray to take on Bray 5ths. Bray started the match quickly winning consecutive corners in the opening quarter. Gorey's defense of Gillian Bailey, Bridget Kenny, Vicky Hughes, Imogen McGuinness held off Bray with Goalkeeper Fiona Mythen making a couple of crucial saves. Gorey settled and shortly afterwards a timely run from our own winger Claire Swords broke the deadlock with a cracking strike from just inside the circle, 1 - Nil Gorey. From here Gorey took control of the game. In the closing moments of the first half Gorey won a number of short corners but failed to convert any chances. Gorey continued to apply pressure sending the ball close to Bray's goal. Saves from Bray's Goalie kept them in touch. Gorey's attack lead by Lynne Copeland, Megan Roark-Shannon, Nicola Ryan entered Bray's circle once more where Claire Swords got on the end of a deflection making it 2 for Gorey. Half time came at the right time for Bray to regroup. Bray started the 2nd half strong putting together a series of passing plays however midfielders Ailbhe Wheeler and Robin Swords dampened their spirits. Gorey were finally rewarded with a brace of short corners but were unlucky to take advantage. Gorey once again began to take command of Bray's circle. A perfectly weighted pass to Lyndsey Walters handed Gorey a 3-0 victory. There were more than one candidate for Player of the Match but central defender Gillian Bailey and goal scorer Claire Swords secure the honours. Gorey Hockey Club travel to Skerries next Saturday, the 21st October for their next League match. Gorey Hockey Team: Fiona Mythen (Capt), Vicky Hughes, Bridget Kenny, Gillian Bailey, Imogen McGuinness, Robin Swords, Nicola Ryan, Ailbhe Wheeler, Lyndsey Walters (1), Lynne Copeland, Claire Swords (2)

**Attention** As Gorey Guardians front page outlines Gorey Hockey Club have finally secured grounds to call home, with the building of a brand new all weather pitch. Over a number of years members of the club and the development committee have worked closely with Councillor John Hegarty in securing a home pitch in the Gorey district. The pitch will be located at the entrance of St.Joseph's National School. It will be for shared use and will facilitate Creagh College, St.Joseph's National School and The Educate Together where they will have full access to the grounds during school times. Without hesitation the fundraising campaign has been launched. We invite all interested parties to attend our first fundraising meeting which will be held in the Amber Springs Hotel Gorey on October 18th @ 8.30pm.
