Learn the art and science of running, with Lee Saxby's Born to Run coaching model This page is the Irish portal for runners and running coaches who would like to improve their running technique and the technique of others using the proven and world renowned BTR coaching methodology of Lee Saxby. The BTR education system has been created with the intention of becoming the internationally recognised, ‘gold standard’ educational program for running technique, performance enhancement and injury prevention.

The epidemic of chronic running injuries is still plaguing humanity, with research suggesting that up to 80% of runners are injured every year. Since 2010 the running community, disillusioned with the ‘scientific solutions’ offered by ‘modern shoe technology’ began to remove their shoes in an attempt to embrace Mother Nature and her panacea for all running related problems; barefoot running. Five years later runners have come to realise that Mother Nature is a cruel mistress, as she removes knee pain with one hand, she delivers ankle and foot pain with the other. Her message is loud and clear; she will make no allowances for lack of skill.

Runners wishing to attend one day Technique Workshops and two day Bulletproof Runner workshops in Ireland will find dates and locations here.

For those interested in becoming a Born to Run coach, you must first attend a two day Bulletproof Runner workshop with a Master Coach to be eligible for a Coaching Course.

Harvard research supports BTR coaching wisdom | Lee Saxby's Born To Run

Research has shown that up to 80% of runners are injured every year. If we truly are 'born to run', how can injury rates be so high? Overstriding (landing in front of the body's centre of gravity) has been linked to higher braking forces and peak-vertical-impact forces that are related to injury risk. By increasing the stride frequency within an optimal range, you decrease over stride and therefore braking force and peak vertical impact force. In addition to reduced braking and impact forces, stride frequency within the BTR recommended range decreases the metabolic cost of running. The hardware and software of running | Lee Saxby's Born To Run

Wondering what you might learn on our Bulletproof Runner weekend? Start with the difference between running hardware and software. Just as in the IT world, hardware (your foot) takes some time to change, but software (your postural stability) is easily changed. Over the course of the weekend, you'll learn how to do both. Bulletproof Runner Dublin

This 2-day Born to Run workshop will give you the tools to improve your running technique - helping you increase efficiency, improve performance and avoid injury. The Bulletproof Runner Workshop includes: 1. Screening for injury susceptibility. 2. Video analysis of running technique and how to apply the appropriate drills to address individual issues. 3. Learning the best neuromuscular drills to increase elasticity, speed and performance. 4. How to structure training, lifestyle and diet for maximum recovery and gains in performance. 5. The most common causes of pain when running and how to prevent and address them. The Bulletproof Runner weekend will give you the tools to train pain-free and to unlock your full potential for speed and endurance. The Born to Run coaching model was developed by world-leading running technique coach Lee Saxby and sports scientist Dr. Mick Wilkinson. The idea that running is a skill (which can be improved) is the foundation of the BTR coaching system. By adjusting the three fundamental 'micro-skills' of posture, rhythm and relaxation we can dramatically influence the 'macro-skill' of running. We can thereby create a better runner by improving the biomechanics associated with greater efficiency and reduced risk of injury. Once the fundamental skill and theory has been mastered, we then develop the runner's physiological capacity for running further and faster by developing elasticity, reactive ability and metabolic conditioning. This couse is suitable for runners of all abilities, as well as coaches and all therapists who work with runners. For those who wish to become a BTR Coach, attendance on a 2 day Bulletproof Runner Workshop is a prerequisite for enrolment in the coaching course. Andrew O'Brien, Chartered Physiotherapist and Born to Run Master Coach will be presenting the Workshop.
