We are delighted that Aisling Lyons will be tutoring concertina at this years Westport Scoil Cheoil (JULY 11th-15th ) Aisling comes from a strong traditional family, who are all musicians and/or singers. As a member of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, Aisling has participated and competed in Fleadh Cheoil competitions from a young age. She is the holder of 8 All-Ireland titles. An experienced performer, Aisling has played individually, with her family and with groups & bands at home in Ireland and abroad. She has performed at Sidmouth & Whitby Folk Festivals in The UK, in Shetland, Norway, USA & Australia. She is currently studying for her BA Degree in Irish Music & Dance at The Irish World Academy of Music & Dance at The University of Limerick.

Tutors 2016

Tara Breen has achieved All-Ireland titles on fiddle in every age category over the years, culminating with the All-Ireland Senior Fiddle Title in 2012. Tara won the coveted ‘Fiddler of Dooney’ competition, and in 2009 she added the prestigious ‘Michael Coleman Fiddle Competition’ to her list of accolades. In 2011 Tara won the senior Oireachtas fiddle title, and also in 2011, Tara was chosen to play at Dublin Castle for the Queen of England during her State visit to Ireland. She has played fiddle with such luminaries as Frankie Gavin and Dezi Donnelly over the years, and has played with various groups all over the world including America, China, India, Philippines and most European countries In 2014 Tara joined the Chieftains for their North American tour, and currently plays with them at various venues both at home and abroad. She achieved her Dip. ABRSM in 2007 in classical flute, and also qualified as a Traditional Irish Music teacher with Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, achieving her TTCT in 2011. Lisa Canny has won 7 All-Ireland Fleadh Ceoil titles throughout her competitive years, including the Senior Harp title in 2008. Also as a teacher, 9 of Lisa’s own students have gone on to win All-Ireland medals. After graduating with a First Class Honours degree in Irish Music and Dance at University of Limerick in 2010, Lisa went on to achieve a First Class Masters degree in Ethnomusicology at University College Cork. Lisa has toured the States and Canada extensively over the last five years with Celtic Crossroads as lead vocalist, appearing on their latest PBS special DVD and CD. She has also toured Ireland, the UK, Germany, France, and Russia with groups or shows including Celtic Spree, Irish Legends, Rhythms of Ireland, Fuaim Chonamara, The Young Irelanders and Fuinnimh, and has performed live in front of over 50,000 people at the Interceltique Festival in Lorient for two consecutive years. John Mc Intyre has performed on many famous stages and festivals including Oxygen, and Slane in Ireland, Reading and Leeds in the UK, and toured extensively in USA, Australia and Europe. He has worked alongside many world renowned producers, and is now also producing and recording in many genres. John studied classical guitar and piano for many years, and from early childhood, he was immersed in the songs and traditional dance music of south west Donegal. Zoë Conway is one of Ireland's finest traditional Irish musicians. Zoë has performed across the globe, both as a solo artist and also playing with international acts such as Riverdance, Damien Rice, among others. She is a holder of the much coveted All-Ireland Senior Fiddle Champion title, winning the prestigious competition in 2001. She was voted Best Traditional Female of the Year in Irish Music Magazine and she is also a featured musician on the current Leaving Certificate music syllabus in Ireland.
