Kevin O'Dwyer will create a personal tour that will take you "off the beaten track" to visit some of the hidden treasures of art, archaeology and history in the Midlands of Ireland. Tours can incorporate monastic sites, castles and our rich environmental heritage with walks through the boglands and wetlands of West Offaly and the Slieve Bloom Mountains.
Additional opportunities to visit Birr Castle, Clonony Castle, Kinnity Castle, Belmont Mills artist studios or sample our unique pub culture for a relaxing lunch or a traditional Irish music session.
Tour guide: Kevin O'Dwyer, internationally renown silversmith and sculptor, established his metalsmithing studio along the banks of the Silver River in 1998. He has been actively involved in Arts and Heritage projects in the Midlands since he moved from Dublin. O'Dwyer has sat on the boards of the Cultural Relations Committee of Ireland, Visual Artists Ireland, Offaly Heritage Forum and Sculpture in the Parklands. In 2005 O'Dwyer concieved and directed Stories from a Sacred Landscape: Croghan Hill to Clonmacnoise, a coffee table book which explores the rich monastic heritage of County Offaly. He founded Sculpture in the Parklands in 2003 and continues to direct and commission new artwork. In 2007 he was named to Irish America's Top 100 by Irish America Magazine for his contributions to Arts and Heritage projects.
