Hearty family breakfast, lunch & dinner, really good coffee & sweet things in a happy setting. A very old custom in Irish agriculture was the habit of leaving one corner of a cultivated field for the hare to breed & thrive.
Hares are respected for their agility and mysticism in Irish mythology. They are considered bewitching & magical. Leaving a little corner of wildness for their safety & enchantment to thrive is an important notion to us about the way we live our lives today.
These old practices of Ireland symbolise who we are as people & remind us of our cultural traditions.
We opened on the day of the "supermoon" which just happened to be very fitting as hares are closely associated with the moon.
We are located in an old grain mill in heart of Ireland where farming is an important feature of everyday life.

Yes, we are open for breakfast! Before the ovens were fired up & uniforms went on, the brave men of The Hare’s Corner paved the way for those of you dreaming of a stack of pancakes or a big fry-up. Yum yum.

March is the month where you may be lucky enough to see this boxing ritual in realtime. Apparently, it’s not between males but between the males AND females!!! Kinda like Tinder for Hare’s! 😂 This beautiful representation of their mating ways was created for us by Ann Lynch as a gift. We’re so totally blown away. It’s crossstitch, ribbon work & embroidery. We’re trying to find the perfect spot for it so that it can be seen up close. Thank you Ann!!! It will be treasured forever. ❤️

Thanks so much to Dan Gorman & Pat Delaney. Called in for their fodder & out they went & did this for us without even being asked. Take note digger driver from last night in Dublin- This is what you do with a digger. This is what you do for your community. This is what you do if you feel bored or marginalised. Thanks lads! Extra spuds for you next time. Respect. 🙌

Snow good. Another kinda extreme weather event & while breakfast was extremely busy, we have decided to close at 2pm. If you fancy stocking up, we can do takeaway dinners up to 2pm today. Tomorrow looks like we will be closed all day. We apologise for the inconvenience. We are taking the “don’t make unnecessary journeys”, Teresa Mannion advice on this. Stay safe everyone. As for yellow snow, you know yourselves. 😂🤮

⭐️Reopening Thursday, Feb. 1st! ⭐️ At long last, it’s time to start up the ovens. After a very fraught & stressful 8 weeks, we are SO excited to get back. February 1st is significant as the start of Spring, St. Brigid’s Day & the old Celtic festival of Imbolc. So, it’s also quite fitting. Thank you to everyone for your continued support & encouragement. We wish our fellow residents, many of whom are still counting the cost and/or out of their homes, the very best of luck. ❤️ Let’s hope Mountmellick will never be so vunerable again. Thank you to the management & committee of the MDA, & all the tradespeople who worked so hard in the aftermath. MOST especially, thank you to our amazing team who have stuck with us through all of this. We couldn’t have done this without them, their positivity & can-do attitude. Thank you lads & lassies. ❤️ So, hoping to see you soon, we will leave you with a poem about our beloved Owenass, penned a few years ago by Declan Furlong himself (not just a pretty face 😂😂). The river wrought destruction on November 22nd, but it forms such a huge part of our collective childhood memories as a place of play & beauty. Let’s not forget that.
