January is the month to sort out that CV ..Your CV has one job. To get you an interview. Consider these 10 tips when designing the perfect CV. 1. Tailor your CV to the job. Forensically matching the job specification to your previous work experience, where possible 2. 2 pages maximum. Be consistent in your font size, spacing etc .You have 20 seconds to make an impression with that CV so no blank spaces. 3. Where possible, quantify. Writing ‘I increased sales from €10,000 to €20,000 in 3 months ‘will stand out more than ‘ I increased sales’. 4. Identify key achievements both inside and outside of work. Include any volunteer type experience. Show the rounded person that you are. 5. Employers can be nosy ! so include a URL link to your Linkedin profile, but only if your Linkedin prfiles sells you well ! Most people will click in to a URL link. 6. Tailor your personal profile to no more than 4 sentences which truthfully and accurately describe your strengths and where possible, match them to the role you are applying for. 7. Make it easy to read and follow. Use bullet points to succinctly get your message across. 8. Think of your audience. If you have to use abbreviations, explain them. 9. Use positive, action orientated language to describe what you are doing/have done. 10. Print it and then proof read, proof read and finally proofread !
