What a wonderful turnout at our meeting last Thursday evening with so many new members taking on new tasks. Louise Lawlor carried out the Toastmaster role in a very efficient manner. We had first timers Mark Meleady as General Evaluator, Mamee Hayes as timekeeper and Mary Burke as Wordmaster. Liam Quinn gave a very absorbing Ice Breaker. The future looks good for our club with so many new members eager to get involved as such an early stage in their membership.

Below is a letter drafted by our President Joe Coleman for inclusion in the District newsletter. It outlines the wonderful teamwork in our club in running a very successful Open Night. THOMOND TOASTMASTERS CLUB 7729 AREA 24 The club now in its 28th year meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month in the Castletroy Park Hotel. The year 2017/'18 is proving to be a very exciting year for the club with a very vibrant, hard working and enthusiast committee and this years committee members are President Joe Coleman, VP Education Noreen Mortell, VP Membership Joachim Seibt, VP Public Relations John Quilligan, Secretary Fergus O’Neill, Treasurer Robert Greaney, Sergeant of Arms John Ryan, Immediate Past President Aimee Stapleton. Several special committee meetings were held in recent months to finalise plans for the 'open night' on January 25th, which was to become the biggest event at the club in many years. As a large attendance was expected a second room was also provided by the hotel to facilitate an overflow which would have involved the meeting being split between both rooms with topics and speeches rotating, with both top tables changing rooms after the break. Additional seating was provided in the regular meeting room the Pery Suite, which proved adequate in the end. We were most grateful to three clubs in the area who provided assistance on the night, Limerick, Raheen and Nenagh and among those present was Area Director; Helen Spillane, who has been most supportive throughout the year. A total of fourteen guests were present with many becoming 'first timers' after the President invited guests to speak before the meeting ended. The next scheduled meeting on February 8th proved to be as exciting when six of the visitors became members. There is no doubt that our new members will generate new energy within the club going forward. Very many thanks to everyone involved for the help and support, which is much appreciated.

OPEN NIGHT 25th January 2018 What a wonderful turnout for our Open Night last Thursday evening in the Castletroy Park Hotel. We started with a challenging and entertaining list of Topics. We then had a vibrant tea/coffee break where the guests and members mingled so well that our Toastmaster Aimee Stapleton had great difficulty in getting all to resume for the second part of the meeting. We had a great variety of speeches from an Ice Breaker followed by an Advanced Speech and finishing with an Educational Slot Presentation. We are now hoping that our guests were impressed and entertained by the evening and are hoping they may consider taking out membership.

Thursday, January 25th is a big event in our club’s calendar. We are having our open night in the Castletroy Park Hotel commencing at 8.00p.m. We have a great agenda planned for the night. We will start with a most entertaining list of Table Topics followed by three speeches of different levels from beginner to advanced. We hope this will demonstrate to our guests how they can progress by joining Thomond Toastmasters. We are asking all members to make a special effort in publicising our Open Night and to bring a friend along with them to the meeting. Pictured below are the Thomond Toastmasters committee members.
