The Cave Bar
Description
The Cave Bar est.1802
The Cave Bar in Corbettstown has long been associated with the Muldowney family. The great grandmother of the present was cousin of Mayor Walker of New York 1925 - 1932. Her husband Thomas Muldowney survived an eviction attempt in his early days when a local policeman thought he would have it for his residence. During the Land League, when the politicians of that time Michael Davitt and Charles Stewart Parnell were at "loggerheads" politically and there was a 'stormy' meeting in Castlecomer on 16th December, 1890. Some protesters threw lime or whiting into Parnell's eye's. Parnell was brought to Muldowney's little thatched pub and was treated there by a Dr.Hackett from Kilkenny. Today the locals enjoy a peaceful pint in pleasant surroundings and chat about the match, or the Dinin trout that got away.
