Rest Periods and Breaks Entitlements - Frank McMahon & Co – Accountants & Auditors, Claregate Street, Kildare Town, Co. Kildare – Certified Public Accountant & Statutory Auditors
DID YOU KNOW: Rest periods and Breaks Entitlements: All workers are entitled to have breaks while they are at work and rest periods between working days or nights. The Organisation of Working Time Act 1997 sets out the statutory minimum entitlement for employees as regards working hours, annual leave, night work, breaks and rest periods for employees. Breaks: The general rule on breaks is that you are entitled to a break of 15 minutes after a 4 ½ hour work period. If you work more than 6 hours you are entitled to a break of 30 minutes, which can include the first 15-minute break. There is no entitlement to be paid during these breaks and they are not considered part of working time. For more information on rules, further break times, how to apply etc - http://mcmahonandco.ie/7551/rest-periods-and-breaks-entitlements/ REMINDER SHARING IS CARING :) - THANK YOU

The prescription charge is €2.50 for each item that is dispensed to you under the medical card scheme, up to a maximum of €25 per month per person or family. From 1 March 2017, the prescription charge for medical card holders over the age of 70 will be reduced to €2 per item and the monthly maximum will be reduced to €20.

Tax Tip Thursday: Life Assurance to help with Inheritance Tax The proceeds of certain life insurance policies, known as Section 60 policies are exempt from inheritance tax where the proceeds from such policies are used to pay inheritance tax arising on the insured persons death, or within a year of his/her death. Any part of the proceeds not used is liable to inheritance tax. Think of it as an aid to help the person you leave your wealth to, to pay their inheritance tax. with the current rate of tax on inheritances at 33%, this is a very welcome aid indeed. Not all of these tax reliefs will apply to you. Some of them involve making investment or spending decisions, and I'd stress again how important it is to get professional advice. The good new is that there are sill allowances and reliefs in the tax system which you can avail of, if they suit your circumstances. So get on the case and start claiming what is yours. Tax Tip Thursday: Capital Gains Tax - Annual Exemption For individuals, the first €1,270 of gain made on the sale of an asset is exempt for capital gains tax purposes. If you are married, the exemption is available to each spouse or civil partner, but is not transferable, unfortunately. Now that asset values are recovering while the CGT rate remains at 33%, don't overlook this exemption. REMEMBER SHARING IS CARING :) - THANK YOU
