Statement from the Carraig Eden Foundation The Carraig Eden Foundation was established in 2016 to raise funds to enable the purchase of Carraig Eden. Our aim was to ensure that the building could continue and develop its use as a safe haven for those reintegrating into society following addiction and to help those who find themselves unable to find somewhere to live to transition to permanent accommodation. The current owners of the building, the Irish Assemblies of God, delayed placing the building on the open market for a period of 6 months to allow the opportunity to raise funds to purchase the building at an agreed priced of 1.7 million euro. Although we have received great support from individuals and the community the Foundation has been unable to raise the amount required. We would like to thank the Irish Assemblies of God for giving us this opportunity. The Foundation will be contacting all those who generously gave donations in excess of 250 euros to offer the return of their donation. Any outstanding donations, such as those received anonymously, will be used to provide financial support to the current residents of Carraig Eden to assist them in finding alternative accommodation. Until such time as the building is sold the Foundation will work with the existing residents to provide support and assistance to enable their transition to permanent housing. The Carraig Eden Foundation would like to thank all those who generously supported us in the past year.

Sean’s story Sean, grew up in Dublin City centre, looked up to his father who was physically aggressive toward him from the age of 9. As a result at the age of 14 he ran away from home and spent many nights in the back of random cars. As time went on he got involved in petty crime, predominantly theft. Over the years this lead to drug addiction and involvement in gangs, which resulted in 15 years imprisonment. In 2010 Sean went to Tiglin Challenge rehabilitation centre for a period of 19 months. While in Tiglin Sean’s life turned around. In his words ‘God changed my life’. This resulted in him travelling to Wales to a Christian training centre for 6 months. Returning to Ireland Sean was fortunate enough to be able to reside in Carraig Eden. If it wasn't for Carraig Eden Sean wouldn’t have known what to do. It was a safe haven for him. His time in Carraig Eden has enabled him to help those in less fortunate circumstances and this has lead him to being appointed manager of the Light House in Dublin City centre. He is also involved in a local church. Quote “Carraig Eden has always been a safe haven for me a place where I feel secure, a place to rest and be at peace. I know God has me where he wants me to be.”

Jessica’s story… Due to the increase of house rental and through no fault of her own, in February of 2015 Jessica was forced to leave her home of three years. Faced with the daunting situation of becoming homeless she did not know where to turn. Through her friends from church she heard of Carraig Eden and the possibility of her being able to rent a room. Thrilled to be able to afford to move in to Carraig Eden she has found the last sixteen months a time that has enabled her to begin to rebuild her life. She has been able to work with people recovering from lives devastated by addictions, a passion of hers that has grown and developed. She is now able to pursue this passion and is in the process of establishing a career for herself. Her stay at Carraig Eden has been instrumental in giving her the security of a home to enable her to rebuild her life. ‘I was in a hopeless situation, I had lost my home…Carraig Eden became home to me…my safe place.’ Give those in need a safe place to rebuild their lives, donate to the Carraig Eden Campaign.
