Club News w/e 5th March The weather was the big spoilsport over the past weekend with the bulk of Maree/Oranmore fc games falling foul to the very inclement weather and waterlogged playing surfaces. The u12 premier side were desperately unlucky in the sfai u12 regional final in Westport last Saturday afternoon when they went down 2-1 to Westport utd in a very close encounter, Westport opened the scoring on 15 minutes but ten minutes later Ryan O Donnell levelled matters only for the home side to snatch the winner in the second half. There were fine performances all round especially from Max Hawksley and Aaron Doyle who impressed. The lads are hoping to bounce back on Saturday morning in the premier league when they host Athenry fc in Oranmore. The u12 championship side meanwhile recorded a fine 8-4 league win on saturday against Corrib Rangers on Westside Astro to move into second place in the table with the goals coming from Liam Burke(3), Colm Whelan(2) and Mikie Grealy(2). Next sunday Maree/Oranmore FC junior A side will host West Utd at 2pm in Oranmore in their refixed Connacht Junior Cup tie which fell by the wayside last sunday due to an unplayable South Park. Support would be much appreciated. Hard luck to the Galway League youths team who went down 3-2 to the DDSL in Abbotstown in the Fai Umbro Youth league cup last Sunday, well done to our club reps Cian O Toole, Matthew Barrett and James Cahalane who featured on this brave side. Next Sunday will see the club organised St Columba's credit union Invitational tournament continuing for u7 and u8 boys sides and girls sides at u8 and u10 level. As of last weekends there were just six punters left in our clubs Last Man Standing competition namely Fiona Cleare,Ronan Cotter,Dylan Gallagher,Eoghan Lohan,Lorraine O Connor and Cian Reddington.We wish them well as the end comes near. Our club are delighted to announce that Maree/Oranmore fc once more will be taking part in the Oranmore St Patricks day parade on march 17th.Fully togged club players are asked to meet at the Oran Town Centre on March 17th at 3pm.All our kids are asked to join our club contingent and march with pride behind our club banner.Treats for all after at the Oranmore Astro,support your community soccer club on our national feast day.

The Connacht Junior Cup game v West Utd due in South Park this morning was cancelled due to an unplayable pitch and will have to be refixed despite the valiant efforts of the West Utd groundstaff.

*The Galway and District League have just announced a blanket call off of all local league and cup games tomorrow(sunday march 5th) due to expected heavy rain and poor pitch conditions.This means our club games u12 girls and u16 boys are off as is our St Columbas Credit Union Invitational tournament for u7/u8 boys and u8 and u10 girls(refixed for next Sunday march 12th). *Our Connacht Junior Cup game v West Utd due in South Park at 11am in morning goes ahead as of now.Any change will be posted here.
