Are you tired of feeling this way and of finding everything a struggle? It can be difficult to make sense of our thoughts, feelings and emotions. Often we can't find the right words, they get in the way or words, simply, are not enough. We learn to think in images -(our visual ‘language’) before we develop our verbal language. Art Psychotherapy or Art Therapy (the titles are interchangeable) helps people deal with and make sense of difficult life experiences. It helps you tell your stories, to (yourself & others), promoting personal growth and increased self-understanding.
It can help to resolve inner conflicts and gain a sense of control over difficult emotions and life situations.
Like other forms of psychotherapy and counselling, Art Psychotherapy is used to help deal with feelings, improve self esteem.express oneself and find new solutions to old problems.
You do not need any previous experience or skill in art. It is not a recreational activity or an art lesson, although the sessions can be enjoyable.
A qualified Art Psychotherapist is trained to be sensitive to the subtleties within the making and viewing of the artwork.
Art Psychotherapy has been used to help treat some difficult and extreme psychological conditions, for example, to great effect with • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder • Depression • Anxiety • Stress • Grief and loss.• Self Esteem issues • Relationship difficulties • Addiction/ Substance misuse and Eating disorders
Art psychotherapy may be provided for groups, or for individuals, depending on clients’ needs and for people of all ages.
