Understanding the Shoulder and Bulletproofing It From Injury
Have been thinking a lot on shoulders recently. Big problem area for a lot of people. One of the best things you can do is understand how your own shoulders work, how they are supposed to move and have the knowledge to know when they are in a good position or a bad position. Here's a link that will get you started. I'm going to hopefully be using this page a bit more now so I'll be throwing up more useful bits and pieces https://breakingmuscle.com/strength-conditioning/understanding-the-shoulder-and-bulletproofing-it-from-injury

Sitting down in chairs is terrible for you and the death of your hips. That said it doesnt mean that you cant still do things to relax we normally associate with sitting. Like watching tv, or in my case here playing a game. Instead of spending an extended amount of time in hip flexion, where my hip flexors are just pulling my low back towards my legs and destroying it. Im making a descision to adopt a hip/low back friendly position that i can spend an extended amount of time in. In the long run, little changes like this could mean the difference between developing back problems....or not developing back problems.

Push up progression
Following the last video i posted on push ups, in this one i go through how to develop the push up skill. Its so important to teach our bodies to move in good position to avoid developing tissue restrictions, and movement dysfunctions that can cause pain and injury. If you aren't able to get into and maintain good form for the basic push up, you are more than likely adopting a dysfunctional positions for movements such as Bench press, Overhead pressing and dips also.

This is one of my clients Darren. We got some great results with his training. Some feed back from Darren: "Ian is a great PT. Overall I'm very happy, I started training with Ian to gain strength for Judo. Thanks to this training, I became the -100kg and Open weight Irish university champion. I also achieved a bronze (-100kg) and a silver (open weight) in the Irish championship. Darren F"
Ok so ive decided to throw up some videos about some basic movement mechanics The first two will be linked, talking first about the push up seen here, and in the next video i will talk quickly on how the same movement principals transfer to the handstand for both stability and shoulder health. If you watch these let me know in the comments if you find them useful.
