Hi All. We completed our first Rapidplay Chess competition on the 5th March. Prize winners were John Hensey, Myself (joint first). John Enright 3rd. Also Harry Gaughan and Gerry Ruane won prizes. Our next event in Bridge St will be on the 9th April as Easter Monday is the first Monday of the Month. Hope to see you all on the 9th. We will have some tactics training and play a few games between ourselves. The Berlin candidates games is on at the moment. Hi All, Our next Chess event in Bridge Street Castlebar is on this Monday coming 5th February. We are expecting some new players to arrive and join in the fun. The first hour is for everyone including Children with the Rapid play (25 min each per game and you will play 2 games) starting at 8.30 and finishing at 10.30. I would like to thank our hosts Bridge street staff and management for facilitating these events and hope we can all support them as well. We had a very enjoyable Chess evening in Bridge Street on 8th Jan. Fourteen people took part in the Castlebar Rapid Chess competition. Two rounds were played of the 6 round event. Next event will be on the 5th February. All are welcome. The standings in the rapid play are shown below.

A Happy New Year from Castlebar Chess Club. Our next Chess event is on this Monday coming 8th Jan at 7.30, venue Bridge St Castlebar...hope to see you all there.

Castlebar Chess Club will meet from 7:30pm on the first Monday of each month over the autumn and winter 2017/18 at the Bridge St pub on Bridge Street, Castlebar. The first hour is for novices/beginners to practise though of course anyone is very welcome to play. From 8:30pm to 10:30pm usually there is a blitz or rapid play tournament with a 5€ entry fee which is distributed as various prizes at the conclusion.

At present it is not clear how the 2017/18 season of the Castlebar Chess Club will progress but initially a few sessions are being held at the Bridge St pub in one of the upstairs function rooms and hopefully work out as a long term arrangement. A mini competetion seesion of chess problems and blitz games was held on Monday 28 August 2017 which was well attended. Bridge St placed a post on its Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/bridgestreetbarcastlebar/ Another session has been arranged for Monday 11 September from 8pm onwards. This will be a casual get-together so anyone of any ability is very welcome to come along to play or enquire about the club.

There will be no meeting this Wednesday, 7 December 2016. There will be some sort of gathering on Wednesday 14 December and this will be the final meeting for 2016.

Castlebar Chess Club returned on 5 October. The club will meet Wednesday evenings from 8pm during the autumn and winter at The Connaught Inn on Spencer Street. Players and newcomers of all abilities are always welcome.
