Concra Wood, Castleblayney GC Mens Notes 08.08.17 Barry O’Reilly Wins Captains Prize Captain Johnny Redmond had his competition last weekend which was kindly sponsored by Pete McMahon and Super Valu. The weather over the weekend was a mixed bag with those playing on Saturday morning arguably enjoying the best of it as all competitors tried their best to record a high enough score to take them into the nine hole play-off on Sunday. Johnny did not make it easy for the players with some tricky pin positions in place. Eoin Reel was one of the first to play on Friday and posted a score of 40 points which was not surpassed in the regulation 18 holes, it was Sunday before his score was matched by Paul Mulligan, these two along with Padraig Haughey and Francis Murphy would make up the final fourball for the play off on Sunday afternoon. Concra Wood, Castleblayney GC Mens Notes 25.07.17 O'Neill on top form Last weekend saw some more good weather and decent scoring in our weekly competition. The Clement McKenna cup has been a regular and sought after prize sponsored by Pierce Hughes over the years. The winner for 2017 was David N. O'Neill whose 44 points eclipsed the field. David had a great showing in Presidents prize and his eye was obviously in this week, shooting that score. In second place and picking up the Category 2 prize for his troubles was Craig Loughman. Craig is a man who loves to try out new weaponry on the golf course and the mix was right for him this time shooting a fantastic score of 42 points. Craig incidentally is sponsoring the Monthly Midweek Major on Wednesday 26th July, more of that later. Category 1 was taken by Christopher Brennan, the Clontibret man shooting a creditable 38 points and Category 3 went to Martin Malone with a solid score of 37 points.
