Unfortunately, dental disease is very common among our pets and it often goes unnoticed, as our pets find ways to adapt and live with any discomfort they might be experiencing. Poor dental hygiene will not only affect your pet’s mouth as it can become a source of infection that can cause damage to your pet’s liver, kidneys and heart. Signs that your pet may be suffering from dental disease include bad breath, yellow or brown stained teeth, difficulties eating, red looking or bleeding gums and loose, broken or missing teeth. This condition can be prevented with high-quality dental care which includes regular check-ups with your vet and frequent brushing of your pet’s teeth. If you are struggling because your dog or cat does not allow you to brush his or her teeth, we can give you useful advice on the best way to approach this or on other products, such as toys and food, that may help you deal with this difficult task.

There are many different reasons for decreased food consumption in cats and it is important to know whether your pet wants to eat or not. If your cat doesn’t eat but he or she has appetite, your pet may have oral problems, such as periodontal disease for example. If your cat doesn’t eat because he or she doesn’t have appetite, your pet may be suffering from a systemic disease, stress or inability to smell, among other conditions. The lack or loss of appetite, scientifically known as anorexia, is a clinical sign of many feline health problems and may indicate potentially life-threatening underlying conditions. Sudden anorexia in cats, especially in overweight or obese ones, is particularly dangerous due to the risk of developing hepatic lipidosis (a serious disease of the liver). Anorexia can have a severe impact on a cat’s health if it persists for as little as 24 hours. Take changes in your cat’s eating behavior seriously and if you notice your cat isn’t eating as usual, do not hesitate and bring your pet to the vet!
Give your pet an amazing smile! Good oral health has a huge impact in a pet’s quality of life! We are keen on raising awareness about this issue so during this month, we are promoting the importance of good dental hygiene in our pets. Dental disease is uncomfortable and painful for our furry friends. It can also be a source of infection that can bring other health problems in the future. If you’re concerned about your pet’s dental health give us a ring! Our nurses are running FREE dental clinics and we can help with your pet’s dental disease, provide you with the latest advice, and recommend the best products so you can keep your pet’s teeth clean and healthy. Caring for your pet’s teeth will not only reduce your pet’s pain and allow him or her to have a better breath but with also prevent other health problems, saving you money over the long term.
