Kavanagh's on the Wexford Road in Arklow has been trading since 1984. Primarily known as a leading newsagent one of our strengths lies in the ever growing range of magazine titles that we stock in store. We cater for all tastes and needs and applying our time honoured "if we ain't got it, we'll get it!" mantra we always endeavour to stock the magazines that the customer wants. It's not rocket science! We always welcome customers placing orders for magazines to be reserved and offer a free text service to all customers with placed orders, informing them when their titles have arrived in store. Every little helps as a bigger neighbour might suggest...

As a Lotto agent since the National Lottery commenced in 1987 we have sold "the odd" Lotto winner over the years, none bigger than a €3.4million ticket a few years back. As ever, we are eager to sell another similar sized winning ticket - but that depends on YOU the customer availing of the ample parking outside the front door and coming in to play Lotto. It could be YOU!

Renowned for our delicious whipped ice cream, with well known celebrities within the national media singing our praises on the national airwaves, we'd like to think we have the best ice cream in town - but that's not for us to say; it's up to the customer to judge on that claim! Delicious ice cream is available in four flavours - vanilla, strawberry, mint and chocolate.

We stock Bord Na Mona bricquettes; coal, blocks and gas. A free home delivery service is always available for your home fuel needs. We also stock Firelogs, Firepaks and charcoals.

We place a strong emphasis on supporting other local businesses - with most of our suppliers being local. In life we take so many things for granted, more so these days when multinational stores remove the personal niceties offered in a smaller local store. What happens when the local baker closes his door for the last time? A local farmer who supplies from his or her own land? A bread delivery driver? Or the local milkman? All essential cogs in the wheel of local commerce. As is a local newsagent / convenience store owner! For every euro that is spent in a local business please know that it is recycled locally up to four times, from supplier through wholesaler and then retailer. Jobs are created as a result, fueling the local economy - something that cannot always be said when queueing at the checkout in a multinational supermarket!

Don't forget: SHOP LOCAL!

A conversation, across the counter, earlier this morning, here in the shop... - "Have ya any of that cheap tobacco? The 9 gram packs?" - "Sorry, they're all gone, finished..." - "Finished?!" - "Yeah" - "Yer f*****g jokin' me?!" - "No, it's the new legislation being brought in over the past while......tobacco packaging is changing.......all small packaging...the likes of your 9 gram packets.......all being done away with. And better still, the plain packaging is coming in later this year....." - "That's f*****g ridiculous! What am I gonna buy now then, eh?" - [holding a combi box 12.5g of branded tobacco] "This is €7.00...." - "Nah, don't like those....." - [holding a 30g pack of branded tobacco] "This is €15, for 30g..." - "F**k tha'........I'll get me smokes for a tenner at the market or somewhere else today...." [Potential customer walks out] And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is where we are today......playing right into the hands of an already fertile contraband 'market'......killing legitimate local trade with relative ease. Fact.
