寶蓮禪寺最初名為大茅蓬。1906年，大悅、頓修及悅明三位法師由江蘇省來到大嶼山建立道場。自此，十方雲水僧聞風而至，香港的禪門漸見規範，至1924年正名為寶蓮禪寺。
