Any person or organization can register for the service free of charge.  You only pay a small fee when you have lost something and the lost item has been found.

When you register you are assigned a Potea mark or identity which is world unique to you. The Potea mark can be printed onto labels or tags that you stick or attach to your property such as handbags, books, pets, key holders, etc. Your property that has serial numbers (e.g. electronic gadgets) can also be registered with Potea using serial numbers of the gadgets. Some documents such as your driver's license or passport or certificates have serial numbers. So when they are lost the finder simply enters the serial numbers into the Potea website.

When someone finds your lost item the finder simply scans the tag, or captures the number on the tag, or enters the serial number.  Potea's sophisticated software then informs you of the lost item.  If airline, train station, bus station, stadium staff find your lost item they simply scan the tag or enter the serial number.  In a few seconds or minutes, there will be an email on your phone or computer informing you of the finding of the lost item for a small fee.

Potea does not physically handle lost property, but simply provides you with information about the whereabouts of the found item. This information is sourced from people who purport to have found your lost item.

A property owner can offer a reward when they register their property with Potea, or when the item has been lost.
