FDN is an initiative organized by students of the University of Witten/Herdecke, with the purpose of improving practical education at overly theoretical medical faculties. The 'Future Doctors Network' (FDN) is an initiative organized by students of the University of Witten/Herdecke.

Its purpose is to support and improve medical education, especially in the practical field, at overly theoretical medical faculties.
Learning and achieving practical physical examination skills, as it is practiced at our university right from the start is of high priority in our opinion. Especially in those regions and countries in the world, which lack the possibility of using high grade technical examination methods such as CT, MRI, etc. a basic, but well mastered physical examination is of grave importance.
For that reason especially medical students in these parts of the world should be taught techniques which enable them to provide the best possible medical examination without technical support.

For that purpose FDN started its supportive program and since 2002 cooperates with the student organization 'Organizata Mjeket e se Ardhmes' (OMA) from the medical faculty in Tirana, Albania in order to provide physical examination courses at least three times a year.
We hope, that in the future we will cooperate with further faculties and student initiatives, that seek the same goal as we do and contribute our share to improving medical education around the world.

Das 'Future Doctors Network' (FDN) ist eine Studentische Initiative im Rahmen des Studium Fundamentale der Universität Witten/Herdecke (UW/H).

Das Interesse von Future Doctors Network liegt auf der Unterstützung und Ausweitung der medizinischen Ausbildung in Entwicklungs- und Schwellenländern. Die Weitergabe praktischer Untersuchungsfertigkeiten, wie sie an unserer Universität von Beginn des Studiums an praktiziert word, erscheint uns vor allem in diesen Ländern von großer Bedeutung.
Anders als in Deutschland, müssen sich Ärzte dort bei der Untersuchung ihrer Patienten noch mehr auf ihre eigenen Sinne verlassen, da sie gar nicht oder nur in geringem Umfang auf technische Hilfsmittel zurückgreifen können.

Seit vielen Jahren pflegen wir eine erfolgreiche Partnerschaft mit der medizinischen Fakultät der Universität Tirana. Wir freuen uns in Zukunft auch mit Medizinstudenten weiterer Fakultäten international zu kooperieren.
