Last gig in Shanghai

Another fantastic night on the Bund in Shanghai... concrete floors, so no room for error on this night..

Just an online review of something that you only grow to expect once working in China. enjoy the Fat Cow is a tasty burger place in Jing An with many un necessary "catchy" names for all of its whimsical food creations...and I mean all of them. The menu read is exhausting and they serve pink lemonade with gin(winner!) But what made my experience stand out was not what was going on my plate, but what was happening around me. Restaurant Danger Sign #1: Single Middle Aged Man orders an entire bottle of Vodka with a glass of ice, no food, just the vodka. Im sure he must have had a hard day and his feet were probably really hot, thats why he took his shoes off. Restaurant Danger Sign #2: Vodka man starts following service staff around the restaurant talking in cursive and hurling curse words at them. It was at this point in our story that our hero, Shoeless Vodka Man produces a full can of soda and throws it across the room, nearly hitting a hapless couple sitting near the window and causing the man to rise and ask Vodka Man WTF is his problem, and after a brief exchange with basically all of the service team between them, Vodka Man reaches into his man bag and produces a handful of cash and offers to angry customer. Customer refuses ( I wouldn't of at this point, it was big of a stack!) and Vodka man then sits down next to angry couple female and chats her up before being dragged back to his seat by service. Vodka Man instead approaches the bar. Restaurant Danger Sign #3: Vodka man and the 6 broken glasses...nuff said. After 25 minutes our good friends at the local police department arrive. In true Shanghai fashion these "overworked" officers want to speak to the manager regarding the disturbance. As Vodka Man shoves her, Officer #1 grabs him by the throat...and if by some sort of drunk fairy dust, Vodka Man realizes he might be in trouble, grabs a handful of straws from the now destroyed bar and begins screeching, crying and stabbing him self in the neck. The officers drag him outside, to which he again produces the large sum of money from his man bag, I can neither confirm or deny that Officer #2 takes wad of cash, but i do know that he and Vodka Man walked off arm in arm. The burger was tasty...better than most Ive had in Shanghai.tt

The Chivas Masters international Cocktail competition.. what a great night, each team was given an empty bar, proved with a budget and asked to put on a night.. each judged on atmosphere, service, and cocktail.... then the award ceremony was held in the prestigious Waldorf, where the previous two winners were serving us cocktails all night. Thank you Chivas Regal for a fantastic night

Stealth Flair: How to Sneak Showmanship into Your Bartending Practice

A quality cocktail and speed of service are always key, but why not sneak in a bit of flair and have fun with your craft while doing so? Flair is not all about being a circus performer or a dancing monkey... most of the time we do it because we enjoy it.. if our patrons get a buzz out of our flair, even better. This being said, it should never be the priority when you are in the middle of service. we hope our fellow bartenders enjoy this article... and lets start seeing a bit of "stealth Flair" behind the bars
