Educating and empowering students to attain personal excellence and positively impact the world since 1994 || www.biss.com.cn Beijing BISS International School was founded in 1994 by its sister school, ISS International School in Singapore, as an independent proprietary, co-educational, English-language day school offering an international curriculum for Pre Kindergarten - Grade 12 students from the expatriate community of Beijing. The 11,000 square meter campus is conveniently located near major expatriate residential areas in central Beijing, located just of the North of Third Ring Road, close to the Olympic Games Village. The BISS@Olympic Park Campus is located in the Beijing Olympic Park.

BISS was the first international school to be licensed by the Beijing Educational Commission, and the first international school in Beijing to be granted authorisation by the International Baccalaureate (IB) to offer all three IB programmes (PYP, MYP, and DP).

It is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS), Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), and the National Centre for Curriculum and Textbook Development (NCCT), Ministry of Education, China.

Approximately 300 students from 30 different countries attend the school. BISS faculty members hail from the USA, Canada, Australia, Korea, New Zealand, China, Japan, Spain, Latvia, Greece, Israel, Germany, Ukraine and the UK. All are licensed in their home countries and qualified in their respective fields, and most hold advanced degrees. Their experiences in international education and diverse backgrounds contribute to the school's international character.

The main building holds over 30 classrooms, two libraries with books in multiple languages, music, drama and art studios, a black box theatre, multi-purpose auditorium, science labs, design technology lab, cafeteria, separate play structures for kindergarten and elementary school students, gymnasium, running track and multi-purpose courts for basketball, football, hockey and volleyball, a rock-climbing wall, and a private medical clinic, staffed by a full time qualified doctor who provides medical services for BISS students and staff.

In addition, our BISS@Olympic Park Campus, located in the Beijing Olympic Park allows students dedicated access to: a 3000-spectator capacity competition tennis stadium (one of the stadiums used during the annual international China Tennis Open), an indoor stadium with four tennis courts and one clay court, an all weather surface Olympic hockey stadium with a 400m running track, artificial turf soccer fields, and basketball courts.

Students also have regular access to the following facilities: Olympic Center and The National Aquatics Centre (Watercube) on priority-use basis and the Hilton Hotel and Crowne Plaza Hotel.

The weekly newsletter, Broadcast, emails, Studywiz and a constantly evolving website keep parents informed of school affairs. An active Parent - Teacher Association helps the school community maintain its family feel.

The BISS academic year consists of two semesters. The first semester starts in August and ends mid-December. The second semester runs from January to June.  The major holiday periods during the year are the Christmas &  New Year Holidays, Spring Holidays and the Summer Holidays. National holidays are also observed.
