Review of this year's World Architecture Festival (WAF), one of the most prestigious awards ceremony in the architecture world, together with its sister event the INSIDE festival. Acclaimed by the judges, Polyphony, one of the anySCALE’s most influential projects, received the honor of being Highly Commended in the Retail category at INSIDE (INSIDE World Festival of Interiors) among 78 projects across the categories of hotels, restaurants, retail and office spaces.

This year, INSIDE World Festival of Interiors saw the entry of 78 projects across the categories of hotels, restaurants, retail and office spaces. Acclaimed by the judges, Polyphony, one of the anySCALE’s most influential projects, received the honor of being Highly Commended in the Retail category at INSIDE 2017.

In addition to the overall standard project procedures anySCALE led for Daystar Academy’s Beigao and Sanlitun campuses during the renovations and upgradations, the team specially designed a signage and wayfinding system including outdoor and indoor directories, room tags throughout the campus.

In August 2017, anySCALE finished up the renovation for premier schooling institute Daystar Academy’s Sanlitun campus, converting the derelict plot from a defunct embassy and French school into a high-quality, clean and safe school campus. The team’s main task was to not only bring the buildings to code, but also create a healthy environment (using low emission materials) that had an identity congruent with Daystar’s image while bringing joy through good design.

Located in an old building with a ceiling height of 2.3 meters, the keywords to describe CR Land’s office’s original design condition were low, tiny, and narrow. Tasked with transforming “chunky and heavy” into open and modern, the team decided to invoke the concept of ‘no design’, meditatively subtracting the number of elements to bring out the essence of the space.

anySCALE marked its 5-year anniversary by putting together a weeklong exhibition that was kicked off by a party on 27th October attended by clients, long-term partners, suppliers, friends and family members. Polyphony, one of the firm’s most influential projects, was the venue for the opening party and is also serving as the location of the ‘5 years in Numbers’ exhibition which showcases anySCALE’s design journey.

Situated in SOHO’s Tianshan Plaza in Changning District, this particular 3Q project too reflected the ‘hip, easy, warm’ spirit of SOHO 3Q, with several design highlights to enliven the occupants. An exposed set of stairs starting at the ground level of the plaza ends at the spacious, airy entry to the co-working space.

anySCALE celebrates 5th Anniversary with Exhibition, Panel Talk and Kick-off Party. A recent meeting with a successful client and a longtime business partner where both compared the age and size of their companies- 10 years for one, 100 for the other- made us realize the time is ripe for us to present our reflections on the incredible journey of anySCALE so far. Open to clients, partners, friends and design lovers, the talk and Q&A will be presided over by founding partners Andreas Thomczyk, Karin Hepp and Tom Chan on October 27th, 7 PM at Polyphony at Topwin Center in Sanlitun, Beijing. The panel session will be followed by the opening party celebrating the exhibition titled “5 Years in Numbers” showcasing anySCALE’s contributions to design in China.
