The Turquoise Door
Description
The Turquoise Door is a place to find painted furniture, home decor and more. We are under renovations to build our workshop to suit your crafty needs. Hi and welcome to The Turquoise Door! Thank you for stopping by my page. Let me introduce myself, my name is Jenn Delaney-Busch and I have been doing this type of work for a better part of my life. Whether it is building a house, painting, sewing or upholstery, you name, I've tried almost everything.
I was fortunate to have been a part of Rechic Studio & Design for the past year, however, life changes and so do your plans. So here I am with the creation of The Turquoise Door.
I offer custom work along with private workshops for the DIYers out there. I am also excited to offer free video tips and tricks to help you on your own designing journey. If you can't find it, build it!
Thanks you so much! -Jenn

FOR SALE: Reclaimed oak wood balusters. Bought a huge lot but only need a few for my railing. They have never been painted or stained, they were sitting in a barn and they sand up nicely. Bottom thickness is 1 3/4". I have over 100 pieces available. Asking best offer. Please message me if you are interested.

Antique newel post is installed! The bottom will require some new oak pieces and trim because the old ones were cut for its original staircase in another home. ❤ I am glad this piece could be reused to hopefully live another 100 years. Tomorrow I will stain the opposite steps and maybe sand some repurposed balusters. We will have a staircase yet! #theturquoisedoor #woodworking #wood #antique #victorian #reclaimed #stairs

Ok so with things in full swing here projects are slowly making their way to completion. I have been doing a "shop my own house" project pretty much everyday. What on earth is that, you ask? Well I have supplies gathered here and there around the house and workshop that have intentions of being installed but haven't made it there yet. So this is where you find me! With the newel post drying I decided to get the stairs cleaned up and the first coat of stain on. I had to alternate them because our only bathroom is located upstairs, bummer, but you gotta do what you can with what you have right? So tomorrow's job is the opposite stair. It will take a bit longer but it will get done. #theturquoisedoor #stairs #generalfinishes #diy

Remember this sad looking newel post? Well I have cleaned it up, sanded it down and have re-stained it. In the sanding process I sanded it just enough to remove the old clear coat and some of the colour. I didn't want to take it right down, I preferred to leave some of the patina it had acquired over the years. It was then stained with a medium walnut colour. The bottom cover panels were also removed because they were split and badly damaged. Once installed I will replace them with newer oak pieces to match the existing finish. Now for the balusters!

Well it was a fun filled day of tree removal. Can you believe the hole in our tree???? If you are in need of a tree guy, Bob from The Urban Arborist is a fantastic guy. Thanks Bob and Michelle! 👍🏻

Never a dull moment around here. Anyone need maple firewood? And in case anyone is upset we cut them down (don't worry I'm very sad) the trees were removed because they were unsafe and had lived a good life. They will be replaced with new ones. 😀

This is my small project for today and it may seem trivial, however it makes a world of difference! I didn't even take a picture of the original before with all the pans literally thrown in with the door slammed before they could spill out. I also apologize for the crumby mess in the bottom lol. So after a thorough cleaning of both the cabinet and the long forgotten $5 scratch and dent drawer from ikea, I put it in. I made sure to check the height of our pans before installing it. I also went shopping around my basement and found the divider rack I picked up in my travels. The bottom area is for baking pans that are less commonly used or a weird shape. And as an added bonus I also fixed the corner carousel that had sprung loose from its brackets and had crashed apart. Everything is clean and re-installed. Yay! And where is my door you ask? I may have stripped the previous paint job off because I plan on repainting this kitchen in the next few weeks.

This is the next project headed into the shop. I have had this lying around waiting to be restored and put back into use. It will need some epoxy to fill in some of the large cracks and the the bottom will be notched to accommodate our stairs. Hoping to recess it back as far as possible so that it doesn't make the small front hall any smaller. It will be quite the adjustment to have a railing again after about oh..... 7 years lol.

Took me all day but I got the pillar trimmed out. Looks a little funny not painted but it is still a major improvement. And I am loving the pallet wall even more than yesterday! One wood working project at a time! #theturquoisedoor #woodworking #wood #diy

Client supplied photo. This built-in is finally in place! This was brought to our shop a few weeks ago to be painted white. They had it custom ordered out of MDF. I couldn't take a proper photo in the shop because it came in separate pieces and now that it's together it looks great. A couple more knobs and she will be set! Thanks Carrie for sending me the photo. ❤

Alright! There you have it, pallet pieces complete. I am slowly chipping away at the wood working and trim projects around this house before everything gets painted. I still need to trim out the stair stringers and then they will be painted white along with the future railing and balusters. In person the wall looks more grey then green but this is the best photo I could get for now. One project at a time!
