Me and my friend, Dave Smith, were chatting yesterday about copywriting. Dave will tell you it's one of my strengths. In a nutshell, copywriting is using words to sell. Sounds easy. It's not. He then asked me if it was worth his time to study copywriting. And here's what I said to him... If I had a gun to my head and had to pick ONE skill for a business owner to master ... it would be copywriting - the ability to write persuasively. Knowing how to write strong sales copy elevates everything you do. It makes blog posts more engaging. Improves response rates to your email marketing. Converts more video viewers to customers. Knowing how to write strong sales copy will even improve your face-to-face selling. As you practice the skill of copywriting, the principles will seep their way to every conversation you have with a customer. Heck, I just noticed that the way I've written this Facebook post follows many copywriting fundamentals. Back to Dave... Dave's a workaholic. And he's not much of a reader. But he's self-aware, and knows he needs some balance in his life. So, he decided to read more, and asked me if I had to pick just one or two books to get him started down the rabbit hole of copywriting, what would they be. I'll give Dave my top two.
