#MaRSMinds: I recently met with the executive team from a multi-billion-dollar organization that was trying to change its innovation culture. The crux of the conversation was this: corporate leaders already have the power to change their work culture and facilitate innovative thinking. All they must do is allocate resources away from an existing business portfolio and redirect it to new initiatives, products, and services. The leadership itself must break with the status quo. A RAND Health study found employee uptake is low and health benefit costs are only marginally lower (about $150/employee/year). Perhaps what’s missing is personalization. MaRS venture Newtopia offers a new approach – customized wellness plans for disease prevention that consider genetics, lifestyle, and motivation to personalize each program with your genetic profile. This allows employers to potentially cut health benefit costs while employees improve their health.
