Off Road Vehicles & Children & Youth | Alberta Health Services

Now that the snow is gone, the west country is getting busier. With that, the emergency department at the Rocky Hospital tends to get busier as well with injuries related to all of the typical west country activities...camping, biking, atv riding, etc. This year, plan to avoid a visit to the emergency department by playing safe! Alberta Health Services provides some information and resources on their website below: http://www.albertahealthservices.ca/injprev/Page4861.aspx

If you have called the clinic in the past few months, you probably noticed that we have implemented a new phone system. We have appreciated your patience in helping us get all the bugs worked out! Just a few tips for the next time you call in: If you are calling regarding anything to do with an appointment here at the clinic (book, reschedule, cancel, clarify, etc), you will want to press 1 at the main menu. **Please note: every now and then (especially on the first working day of the month), the phones are exceptionally busy, and all of the available lines get filled up. This will cause you to be looped back to the main menu when you press 1 to book an appointment. We apologize, as we know this is frustrating. Please hang up and call again. If you are calling regarding any kind of form that you need a doctor to fill out for you (excluding requisitions), you can dial through to the office by pressing 3 at the main menu. If you are looking for our address, hours of operation, etc., you can press 4 at the main menu. If you're not sure who you need to talk to, you can always press 0 to go through to the main switchboard.

AHCIP – Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan: Alberta Health website

Alberta Healthcare Tips: Albertans no longer receive statements from the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP), so it is easy to forget to update them when our circumstances change. However, in certain circumstances, this can cause a disruption to your healthcare coverage. A few examples of this include: - turning 21 years old...if you turn 21 and you have not registered yourself with the AHCIP independently from your parents, your healthcare coverage may lapse. In most cases, a phone call to Alberta Health can resolve this issue. - moving out of the province and then moving back...if you leave Alberta and acquire healthcare coverage elsewhere, you will most likely have to re-apply for AHCIP coverage. You can find the necessary forms online (link provided below), or at your nearest registry office. - expired temporary residence status...if you have AHCIP coverage via temporary residence (for visitors from outside the country), your Alberta healthcare coverage will expire on the date listed on your card. Being without healthcare coverage should be taken very seriously, and should be taken care of as soon as possible. Being without coverage means that you will have to pay out of pocket for any medical services you receive (including facility fees), and this can add up quickly! For more information about the AHCIP, go to their website at http://www.health.alberta.ca/health-care-insurance-plan.html, contact them at 310-0000 (toll free government RITE line) then 780-427-1432, or speak with your nearest registry office.

Bell Let's Talk

Whether we face them ourselves or someone we know or love does, mental health issues affect us all. And yet it is still so downplayed and misunderstood. Every day is a good day to talk to each other about it, but today, January 25th, is #BellLetsTalk day...which means that for every Facebook post, tweet, instagram post and snapchat containing the hashtag #BellLetsTalk, Bell will donate five cents towards mental health initiatives. Let's get the conversation going!! Today and every day, be willing to talk without shame, and be willing to listen without judgement. Connection goes a long way towards healing. Let's talk.

It is a bittersweet day at the Rocky Medical Clinic today...Dr. Andre van Zyl, who has been tirelessly serving the people of Rocky Mountain House and surrounding area as well as the O'Chiese and Sunchild First Nations since 2001, is moving on to put his talents to good use in another community. Not only has he been a fantastic family physician and anesthetist here for the past 15 years, he has also more recently been very involved in helping to improve healthcare for ALL rural patients in the central zone. We are so sad to see him go, but we wish him nothing but the very best in his future endeavors. We will miss you, Dr. van Zyl!!!

Check out the new HEAL (Health Education and Learning) program, a resource aimed at providing families across Alberta easily accessible, reliable information about common minor illness and injuries in children. The content provided in the HEAL program comes directly from the Pediatric Emergency Medicine experts at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and Stollery Children’s Hospital. While children with coughs, fever, ear pain, vomiting, diarrhea, minor head injuries or nosebleeds can feel very uncomfortable, they are most often safely and best cared for in their own home; the majority of these illnesses and injuries do not require a visit to the Emergency Department. http://www.albertahealthservices.ca/info/page12422.aspx
