Penhold Volunteer Fire Department
Description
The Penhold Fire Department is paid-per-call, coed and proud to be part of Alberta’s emergency services team. Our members volunteer for service, but are paid for training time and time spent on emergency calls. Our department does not only protect the town, but we also work in conjunction with other departments in our vicinity, Penhold's agreement is with Red Deer County. A lot has changed since the early 1900’s when Fire Companies literally fought to see who was going to put out the fire. Now we all work together. That’s why you may see County trucks and firefighters in our town.
We exist under the authority of the Town of Penhold and operate using a rank structure. The Fire Chief manages the department and delegates tasks to his captains and front line firefighters.

Here are some highlights from Stair climb 2017. Thanks again to our members for taking on this challenge for Wellspring and for everyone who helped us raise the funds. Such a great opportunity to stay in shape and meet with other Firefighters from Alberta and across Canada. Looking forward to next year.

Tomorrow morning many of our members will once again take on 1204 stairs/ 54 floors in the Bow Building for the Calgary Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge. This is no easy task. The temperature is hot and the air supply at times will be limited. Each one of us climbs for different reasons, some of us in memory of those we have lost, those who continue to fight and some of us climb for those who have no one. Every dollar we have raised will go directly towards Wellspring Calgary an amazing organization that supports those affected by cancer. Good luck to everyone.

Today one year ago Firefighters from all over Canada and abroad descended on Fort McMurray to battle the fire that destroyed a community. As people ran out, first responders ran towards this beast of a blaze. As Ft Mac works to rebuild, let's remember those who were there when duty called. If your looking for a good read and an in depth look at what unfolded during this disaster Fire Fighter Damian Asher's book " Inside the Inferno" is available on book store shelves.

Yesterday was Mc Happy Day. Each year our department teams up with the awesome staff at Gasoline Alley West McDonalds and we volunteer our time. Some of us make fries, while others create burgers and at the end of the day we are helping families and Ronald McDonald Houses in Alberta. Ronald McDonald Houses provide an inexpensive and welcoming home away from home for families with sick children in hospital. Every $1 from a Big Mac, Happy Meal or coffee is donated to the RMH charities. We had a great time as usual and look forward to returning next May.

May 4th is International Firefighters Day. This day was created in recognition of those men and woman both career and volunteer who dedicate and risk their lives to provide safety and protection to others in their community. Often these men and woman are taken away from their families at a moments notice, at all hours of the day for any period of time and help complete strangers in their time of need. They work on empty tummies and full bladders in some of the worst conditions you can think of. These men and woman are missing their loved ones while holding the hand of yours. If you know of or have a Firefighter in your life be sure to let them know you appreciate what they do.

Today along with Ponoka County Fire and Rescue our 1001 students were kept busy at the City of Red Deer training grounds performing live fire training drills. Our students maneuvered through a smoke filled three story building for search and rescue exercises, climbed the aerial ladder, extinguished a simulated car fire and learned about over haul once the fire is out. All in all a great day with an awesome group of people.
Rock County 911 - Uptown Funk Lip Dub Video
Sometimes we just need to have fun. Police officers and firefighters in the US got together and created this fun video. Maybe one day PFD members will partner with law enforcement and create one of our own. Until then enjoy these fancy dance moves.
