Chez Doris
Description
Chez Doris has been operating for over 37 years and is the only drop-in day refuge in Montreal for women. Our "no questions asked" philosophy draws women with the most severe mental health issues who require more time to ask for help and are unlikely to go to other centres, which have an interview-meeting process before being accepted.
There are far too many women who are on the street, living with uncertainty and extreme poverty. Many roads lead them to Chez Doris: they find themselves destitute and vulnerable due to sickness, job loss, divorce, the difficult economic situation and more, subsisting and surviving in misery. Chez Doris embraces these women, comforting them, listening to them and taking care of them.
Chez Doris welcomes women who come to the house to take part in a variety of activities, make use of professional services, eat a hot meal, get a little sleep and a change of clothes, be called by their names and, for a time, feel like ordinary people.
